Shirley A. Russell

Shirley A. Russell, age 91, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born June 2, 1935, in Columbus, Ohio. She was the only child of Lloyd and Mary (Antol) Rollins. She graduated from her beloved Central High School, Class of 1953. Shirley Anne is proceeded in death by her parents, her first husband, Patrolman Robert F. Lisska, as well as her second husband, Thomas J. Russell, to whom she was married 53 years. Shirley was a wonderful mother to four children, Robert (Darlene) Lisska, Bradley (Marcia) Lisska, Susan (Greg) Hackenbracht, and Anne Marie (Henry) Wehrum. She will be dearly missed by all of her 12 grandchildren, Robert, Brian, Jason, Kyle, Katie (Paul), Chad, Thomas, Brent, Tyler (Markie), Christopher (Teresa), Eric and Angela, as well as 6 great-grandchildren, Maci, Blake, John, Charlotte, Henry, Ellie, and #7 on the way. Shirley had many various jobs that she enjoyed over the years. Her two favorite places of employment were the Pontifical Josephinum, as well as Doctors North Hospital. However, as much as she appreciated all her positions she held in the workforce, her most treasured job title was, 'Matriarch of her Family.' Nothing brought more joy to both Shirley and Tom than having all their family gathered at the house their children will always consider 'home.' They made sure each holiday celebration created a great deal of fun, laughter, and countless unforgettable times. Endless memories were also created on family vacations to the beach, particularly Ocean Isle Beach, NC. The inaugural trip was in 1979, and they returned as often as they could. Their time spent at OIB only became sweeter once their grandchildren were with them. People who knew Shirley knew she was an avid Ohio State football fan, and she thoroughly enjoyed a good tailgate. Watching and listening to Shirley during an OSU game was nothing short of entertaining. Her commentating could be very colorful if she believed it was warranted. Shirley was a longtime parishioner of St. Michael Parish. She was a member of the church choir for many years. In addition, she sang with the Worthington Chorus, alongside her husband. Shirley felt honored to have also served as a member of the Christ Child Society. Shirley Anne will be further missed by numerous family members and friends, but we find comfort in knowing, first and foremost, she is with Jesus, as well as loved ones who were there to welcome her. She was particularly looking forward to seeing her own mom. Shirley's family would like to offer their appreciation to all the nurses on the 6th floor at Riverside Methodist Hospital, notably Destiny, RN and Olivia, RN, for the exceptional care they provided to her. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Thomas, her grandson, for loving and caring for Meme every single day, especially since 2020. Well done, Thomas...she's at peace. The family will hold a memorial service, at a future date.
