Robert Eugene Frisbey

It is with deep, and heavy sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Eugene Frisbey, WWII Veteran, genealogy enthusiast, random trivia junkie, foodie, staunch Republican, and a proud Ohio University graduate who went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 26, 2015. He was born November 1, 1925 in Columbus, Ohio to Walter and Evelyn (Rigger) Frisbey. He is proceeded in death by his wife, Avanell Patricia (Smith) Frisbey, his brothers Walter and Wayne Frisbey and sister, Dorothy (Frisbey) ONeil. Bob grew up in Columbus, Ohio. He took pride in saying, imagine, a boy from the bottoms of Columbus who left school in 9th grade and then went on to matriculate and earn his Masters Degree. He was a 1954 graduate of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where he earned his undergraduate degree in education and Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio where he attained his Masters Degree in Education Administration. He was a former science and math teacher as well as a beloved principal. Bob also served his country proudly during WWII in Europe. He joined the United States Army February 3, 1944 and served until being honorably discharged May 7, 1946. Bob began his career at Lockheed Martin in Columbus, Ohio prior to attending college and then enjoyed teaching in Newark, Sunbury, Centerburg, and Charleston, West Virginia schools. He was also principal at Centerburg and was the first principal at Britton Middle School in Hilliard, Ohio. He enjoyed boasting that all his children and grandchildren are college graduates and was never shy about telling people how important it was to further ones education. Bob had a life-long love affair with his homemade noodles, ham salad, potato salad, and a good steak. He excelled at creating his own home recipes that were often a guarded secret, but shared with close family and friends. He enjoyed reading any history book and military book he could get his hands on, and was an avid watcher of JAG, The History Channel, and the Discovery Channel. He loved each and every car he owned and loved to take rides to wherever his heart desired. He had an uncanny ability to know every state and local highway and could navigate the backroads of Ohio and beyond like an explorer. Those who knew Bob will tell you he loved a good joke just as much as the next person. He had an infectious sense of humor. Fond memories of family Christmas celebrations always ended in a competitive round of the game of hearts which he thoroughly enjoyed. Bob enjoyed his family and Mount Vernon, Ohio. He never felt more at home than when he returned to the quaint, picturesque town of Mount Vernon after many years of living in Columbus. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Steven (Evelyn) Frisbey of Columbus, Ohio, his daughter Susan (Alan) Hartter of Royal Oak, Michigan, and his daughter Sheryl (Gary) McMillion of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also survived by and took great pride in his five grandchildren, Stephanie Frisbey-Roll (Mark), Jonathan Frisbey, Joshua Frisbey, Katherine Hartter, Rachel McMillion, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at Southwick-Good & Fortkamp Funeral Home on 3100 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43202 at 11:00 AM August 31, 2015. A visitation will be held at Southwick-Good & Fortkamp Funeral Home 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM August 29, 2015 and 2:00 PM- 4:00 PM August 30, 2015. Burial will follow at Alton Cemetery 137 - 287 Alton-Darby Creek Road in Galloway, Ohio.
