Pearl B. Churella

Churella Pearl Borders Churella, age 91, passed suddenly and peacefully on October 20, 2015, at her home in Columbus, Ohio. She was affectionately known to her family as "Mert". She was born February 15, 1924 in Ulysses Lawrence County, Ky., and was a graduate of Louisa High School, Louisa, Ky. Pearl came to Columbus in 1943 to work at Curtiss-Wright and attended Bliss College, then later worked at the A & P Bakery, B.F. Goodrich, and from 1970-1988 at Ashland Chemical in Dublin, Ohio. She married Michael John Churella on June 16, 1956 and raised three children in Dublin, Ohio. Pearl and Mike retired in 1988 and moved to Venice, Florida. Pearl was widowed in 2005 and returned to Columbus in 2011 to be closer to her family. She enjoyed traveling, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and NASCAR racing. She was preceded in death by her parents Arlie L. and Carnalee (Castle) Borders, her husband Michael John Churella, brothers William A. and Arlie J. Borders, sisters Opal Taylor, Helen Wollenmann, and infant great-grandson Colton Robert Churella. Pearl was survived by her son, Stephen Churella of Grove City; and daughters, Susan Churella and Lisa Churella (Nelson) Miller of Columbus; grandchildren, Jared (Danielle) Churella of London, Ohio, Lindsay Churella of Mechanicsburg, Ohio and Madeline Nicole and Mason LeMoyne Miller of Columbus; great grandchildren, Thayden Sairley, Colton Michael Churella, Bentley Robert Churella of London, Ohio and Kyleigh Charlotte Wheeler of Mechanicsburg, Ohio; brothers, Earl (Rosemary) Borders and sisters Jewell Tucker of Longmont, Colorado, Carolyn Mullins of Westerville, Ohio, Evelyn Fannin of Chillicothe, Ohio and Kathryn (Doug) Patton of Conroy, South Carolina; as well as many additional nieces and nephews. Pearl attended St. Timothy Catholic Church with her family and was an active member of the Widows Group. Pearl's family wishes to thank caregiver Nicole Herron and the staff at Griswold Home Care for all their assistance. Arrangements handled by RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, Worthington, Ohio.
