Larna A. Hazlett

HAZLETT Larna A. Hazlett, age 92 went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 16, 2009, at Friendship Village Health Center in Dublin, Ohio where she had been a resident for 2 ½ years. Prior to entering the Health Care Center, she had lived at Friendship Village since 1993. Our loss is heaven’s gain! Larna was born in Mt. Perry, Ohio to Charles and Maude Wilkins on February 2, 1917. She graduated from Somerset High School in 1935 and went on to become a beautician after attending the Ohio State School of Cosmetology. She married Reynold V. Hazlett on February 25, 1941. Larna and “Ray” moved to Columbus and later to Worthington, Ohio. She became a member of the Worthington Presbyterian Church in 1950 and was a faithful member until her health prohibited attendance. Over the years, Larna volunteered in many areas, always smiling, with a continuing willingness to help others. She was especially gifted in blessing others with her words of encouragement. She was known for her often used phrase of “God Bless you!” Larna loved flowers and was an expert in raising African Violets, at one time caring for over 30 plants and winning numerous awards for them. She was known at Friendship Village as “The African Violet Lady.” She loved to give them away and teach others how to grow them. Larna was a very loving mother to surviving son, Gary (Connie Dalton) Hazlett of Nelsonville, Ohio and daughter, Sharon (Richard) Sunkle of Powell, Ohio. She is also survived by sister, Faye Wilkins, of Somerset, Ohio; grandsons, Chad Fields of Delaware, Todd (Kari) Fields of San Clemente, California and Luke (Elizabeth) Fields of Columbus, Ohio and Step-grandson, Daniel Mace of Logan, Ohio. Additional survivors are two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Fields and Caleb Fields; and three step-great-grandchildren, Christopher, Nickolas and Nathan Mace; and three great-nephews, Mark, Mike and Max Winland all of Zanesville, Ohio.She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Reynold, whom she was married to for 65 years. Also, preceded in death by sister, Pearl Winland and brother-in-law, Forrest Winland of Zanesville, Ohio & step –grandson, Douglas Mace. Calling hours will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service. To celebrate Larna’s precious life, services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street, Worthington. Interment will follow at the Mt. Perry Cemetery, Mt. Perry, Ohio alongside her husband Reynold. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Worthington Presbyterian Church or Friendship Village of Dublin Memorial Fund.
