Kathleen Ann Basom

Kathleen Ann Basom, 82, of Worthington, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, surrounded by loving members of her family. A devout Christian, she touched those around her with her kindness, quiet grace, quick wit, humility, and adventurous spirit. Her joy for life was evident to all who knew her. She loved to travel, spend time with family, and was a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds. Together, she and Chuck had seven children, five boys and twin girls. She is most well known for her sweet nature and unconditional love; most members of the community came to know her as “Mom B.” She was born on December 12,1943, in Caldwell, Idaho. Kathleen grew up on a farm and enjoyed her time riding horses and watching or participating in her favorite sport, rodeo. She was valedictorian of her class at Caldwell High School, attended The College of Idaho and graduated with a Biology degree from The University of North Dakota. She worked for Riverside Methodist Hospital in the pharmacy department for over 40 years. Kathleen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles R. “Chuck” Basom, parents, John C. Williams and Edith L. Butler, and her firstborn son, William R.“Bill” Basom. She is survived by her children; Dick Basom (Julie), Bob Basom (Jill), John Basom, Bryan Basom (Lauren), Kate Basom Lewis (Brandon), Ann Basom, grandchildren; Hannah, Brooke, Jake, and Zack Basom (Bob), Laney and Ryker Basom (Dick), Maggie, Charlie and Andy Basom (John), Leo Azzola, Beckett and Blake Basom (Bryan), her sisters; Alice Reeves (Jerry), Beth McKeever (Harold), brother-in-law; Bill Basom (Karen), and many other loving family members. Kathleen will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her gentle and joyful spirit, her selflessness, and the extraordinary way she made others feel loved. A private service will be held at Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather for an open-house Calling Hours honoring Kathleen on Saturday, September 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Main Ballroom at Worthington Hills Country Club. In the spirit of the beautiful life she shared with so many, guests are encouraged to come at any time during the open house, spend time together, and share their favorite stories and memories of Kathleen. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Kathleen’s honor to the following: Worthington Resource Pantry or OhioHealth Hospice House.
