June A. Young

June Alene McGowan Young, a longtime resident of Worthington, Ohio, passed away peacefully on her 102nd birthday, June 29, 2026. She had called Worthington home since 1955 and was a devoted member of Linworth United Methodist Church. June was an active and proud member of the Worthington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. June was born in Dayton, Ohio, on June 29, 1924, to Dr. Helen Pierce McGowan and Dr. Alden McGowan. She graduated from Greenville Senior High School in 1942 and later earned a degree in Home Economics from The Ohio State University, where she was an active member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She enjoyed a life rich in international travel and cultural experiences while accompanying her husband during his service as an OSU/USAID specialist. Their assignments took them to Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil (1964–1968); Kampala, Uganda (1972–1973); Nairobi, Kenya (1973–1974); and Antigua in the Leeward Islands (1980–1982). An avid writer, passionate animal lover, and enthusiastic world traveler, June delighted in sharing stories from her remarkable life and adventures. Her warmth, curiosity, and gift for storytelling touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she enriched. June is survived by her daughters, Caryl Lynn Young of Columbus, Ohio; Randi L. Mockensturm of Dublin, Ohio; and Nancy A. Ratey of Worthington, Ohio. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Nicole Young of Fortaleza, Brazil; grandsons Colin (Elizabeth Claxton) Redding of Hawaii, Alexander (Beatrice) Mockensturm of Chiavari, Italy, and Matthew (Theresa) Mockensturm of Dublin, Ohio, granddaughter-in-law Carlotta Goncalves of Florida; and her great-grandson, Clair Claxton-Redding of Hawaii, Joncarlo Goncalves of Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clair William Young (May 7, 2004); her son, James E. Young (December 17, 2024); her grandson, Jonclair A. Y. Goncalves (June 3, 2017); her brother, Jim Pierce; and her sister, Marianna Perry.
