Joseph Koury

Joseph Koury, 82, died Thursday,September 8, 2011. He was born November 11, 1928 in Oneonta New York, where he grew up in a large family. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University. After college, Joe became Oneonta’s City Clerk and was active in the Sixth Ward Men’s Club. He served in the Army National Guard. For most of his career, Joe worked as a controller of business and manufacturing firms. He was a competitive bridge player and an avid sports fan. Joe followed politics and current events closely, reading the newspaper cover to cover every day. His main interest was in being actively involved with his children and grandchildren and their activities. He is preceded in death three weeks ago by his loving and devoted wife of 56years, Shirley Irene McConnell Koury; his parents Sadie and Mary Koury,sisters Jane, Marion,Nora and Susie Koury, brother,Ned,granddaughter Nicole Marie Pantaleano,sister-in-law Antoinette Koury and parents in law Elliott and Ina McConnell. Joseph is survived by four children and their families: Nancy Lynne Koury King, her husband Dave and their children Kory and Eric; Linda Anne Koury Pantaleano, her husband Fred, and their children Jaci and Andrew and grandchildren Gavin and Gabe; Joseph Elliott Koury, his wife Mary and their children Caitlin, Joseph Patrick and Jack; and Cynthia Sue Koury Calvert her husband Bill and their children Maria, Michael and Mackenzie. Joe is also survived by his sisters Esther Koury and Betty (Koury) Enokian, her husband Ralph, and their children Liz and Tom; brother Ed Koury and his children Lisa, Steve, Debbie and Ann, as well cousins, and great- nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are Monday, September 12, 2011 from 9:30-11 AM at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 West Olentangy St.,( Powell Rd./St.Rt. 750/1/4 mile east of Sawmill Pkwy.) Powell, OH 43065 (614-792-1471) followed immediately by a memorial service at 11 AM. Rev. Larry Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Jerome Cemetery, Jerome Township.
