Hobert Hatfield

Hobert Hatfield, age 76, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at OSU Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 1/2 years, Elizabeth Susan; sons, Tim (Christina) of Washington, Todd (Lisa) of Worthington; his two granddaughters he raised, Tracey Hatfield of Columbus, Tammy (Darion) Smith of Powell; his 12 loving grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clarence (Gloria) of Tennessee, Henry, Kenneth (Jan); sisters, Danise (Jim) McNeely, all of Columbus; Doretha (Bob) Lambert of Plain City; brothers-in-law, Phil (Sharon) Hall of Delaware, Tom (Betty) Hall of Mt. Gilead. Hobert was preceded in death by his parents, Lettie and Kenna; son, Tony; granddaughter, Tabitha; brothers, Clellan, Clinton, Junior, and Willis; in-laws, Warren and Betty Hall; sister-in-law, Sandy Thacker. Hobert retired from the City of Columbus where he worked 31 1/2 years as a Cableman Supervisor. He also worked for the Worthington School District for 15 years, and also retired from St. Timothy Catholic School, which he dearly loved. Hobert was a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church and a former member of The Pentecostal Church of God in Obetz for over 30 years. He was an avid and accomplished gardener, loved bird watching, singing, and playing his guitar. He looked forward to having cookouts and loved being with his family. He gave each one a special nickname. One of his favorite activities was taking walks with his grandchildren down to the creek and teaching them to skip stones. He dearly loved each and every one of them. He was a loyal Buckeyes fan and followed his Cleveland Indians faithfully. Viewing hours will be 5-8 PM Tuesday June 28, 2011 at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High Street, Worthington. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1088 Thomas Lane, Columbus, OH 43220 at 10:30 AM Wednesday, Father William J. Faustner, Celebrant. Hobert will be laid to rest beside his beloved granddaughter, Tabitha, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware.
