Gloria Pearl Monagan

“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; . . . Ecclesiastes 3:1-2a Gloria Pearl Monagan passed away peacefully at Riverside Methodist Hospital, into the hands of the Lord on the morning of July 19, 2026. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Gloria was born on July 26, 1941, in Fort Gaines, Georgia, to Eva Theresa and Robert Morris Peterman, Sr. While attending the Tuskegee Institute, she married the love of her life, Charles F. Monagan, on May 28, 1962. Upon graduation, the loving couple began a life of service to this grateful nation and the various communities in which they resided. As a dedicated and loving “military wife” and mother, Gloria was blessed to earn her Master’s in Social Work from Pennsylvania State University in 1974. Shortly after she and her family arrived here in Worthington, Ohio, in 1978, she continued her service/career in social work and would become a special part of the Saint John A.M.E. Church family. While attending the church, she would almost immediately join the Sr. Choir because of her love for music. She continued to praise and worship the Lord through music as well as serving in various ministries/offices of the church. Her vibrant energy and joy will be sorely missed. This “beautiful lady” and child of God was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Eva Peterman; brother Gerald W.; sister Bonnie R. Flowers; sister Col. Carol L. Butts (Ret.), sister Eva T. Littleton, and brother Floyd F. She leaves behind a loving husband Col. Charles F. Monagan (Ret.), PhD, brother Robert M. Peterman, Jr., (Pam), sister Jan A. Farmer (Hiawatha), three children: son Charles K. Monagan DDS, (Carla), daughter Angela E. Monagan (Bill), son Lee J. Monagan; grandchildren: Alyson T. and Charles A. Monagan (mother Carla), Alan A. Cann (mother Angela), Maxwell L. and Violet V. Monagan (mother Valerie). She is also survived by a host of cousins, nephews and nieces, and a wealth of friends who loved her contagious spirit very much. Let us forever remember the special love, joy, kindness, and blessings shared with our beloved Gloria.
