Alma Olofson

ALMA CATHERINE HUBER OLOFSON, age 89, of Friendship Village, Columbus, Ohio, passed away on April 16, 2009, at St. Ann’s Hospital after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ida Huber of Anthony, New Mexico, as well as by her brothers Willis and Wayne Huber (and his wife Evelyn) all of Anthony, New Mexico. Alma is survived by her husband, Cliff Olofson, of Friendship Village in Columbus; her daughter, Carol Olofson O’Shea (and her husband Jerry) of Glorieta, NM, their children Casey and Cassandra O’Shea; her daughter Susan Olofson of Santa Fe, NM; her son Carl Olofson (and his fiancee Susan) of Concord, MA, his children Julie and Sarah Olofson; and her son Jon Olofson and his wife May of Arcadia, CA, their children Erika and Jaclyn Olofson. Alma was born February 7, 1920 in Albany, Oregon, but spent most of her childhood in Anthony, New Mexico. She graduated from Anthony Gadsen High School then received a B.A. in English and Music from New Mexico State University. She received her R.N. certificate from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and worked as a nurse in Baltimore, Maryland. After marrying Cliff Olofson in 1945, Alma lived in several places throughout the Northeast and Midwest, most recently Friendship Village in Columbus, Ohio. Over the years she worked as a nurse/teacher and finished her career as an assistant librarian at the Worthington Public Library. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority, Arts Societies and Garden Clubs in various cities, Geneva Fellowship, and the Worthington Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed her women’s book clubs. Alma was a compassionate and gracious woman who delighted in helping others throughout her life. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Worthington Public Library, 820 N. High Street, Worthington, Ohio, 43085.
