William "Bill" Edwin Elwell

William “Bill” Edwin Elwell, age 86 of Columbus, Ohio, died December 26, 2021. Preceded in death by his parents, Edwin H. Elwell and Elisabeth Markley Elwell; also brother Richard M. Elwell. Survived by his wife Pamela McSwain Elwell of Columbus, OH, brother David L. Elwell of Elyria, OH; and his children Amanda Elwell Walker of Reston, VA and Daniel Walker Elwell of Silver Spring, MD. Graduate of East Aurora High School in NY; Bethany College WV, where he received a Ford Motor Scholarshi; Middlebury College in VT, and The Ohio State University in OH. He was a Fulbright Scholar to Germany in 1957-1958, which was an enduring highlight of his life. While in Germany, he taught English at Ludwigsgymnasium in Saarbrücken and attended Phillips University in Marburg. After returning to the US, he taught foreign languages, particularly German, at high schools in East Aurora, NY, Rocky River, OH, and Columbus, OH. He was an avid photographer and cyclist, and enjoyed classical music. He always enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people. He was a long term member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Columbus, OH, where he served in many capacities including as a lay reader, altar guild member, choir member, acolyte and acolyte trainer, and vestry member. Memorial Service will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Columbus, OH, March 5th, 2022 at 11 AM. For the best parking, go to the Arps Garage one block south of Lane Ave. The Memorial Service will be available for streaming through Facebook and YouTube by St. Stephen's as they usually are.
