William “Ed” Edward Hughes, age 86, of Columbus, passed away October 26, 2021. Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a long time employee of DCSC, where he was a problem solver and innovator. Preceded in death by his father, William “Shorty”Elias Hughes and mother Dorothy “Dot” Grace Justice. He is survived by his wife Judith Ann (Loofbourrow) Hughes, daughter Therese Caines (Tom) of Florida, son Thomas Hughes (Becky)of Kentucky, and son William Eugene Hughes (Julie) of Ohio. Siblings Mary Bates, Thomas, Elaine Houck, Samuel, Daniel, Kenneth (Judy) and Jill Wilhelm. Grandchildren Elizabeth Biggins, James and Sarah Caines, Josh and April Torres, Destiny Johnston and Griffin Hughes. Great-grandchildren Carlyn and Haley Caines of Florida and many beloved nieces and nephews. Ed was a graduate of Mifflin High School, Class of 1952. He worked with the Boy Scouts and received a service recognition award from Pack 51. He also helped with Clean Up and Recycling Backers (CURB) and participated with Neighborhood Watch. Upon retirement he became an avid volunteer with The Ohio Village. In 2019 Ed donated 296 hours and received a Presidential Service Award pin. The Henry Chadwick Award was presented to Ed for service to The Ohio Village Muffin Baseball Program. For years Ed walked 5 miles a day and made many friends throughout the Clintonville area. The children would call him a wizard as he wore a hooded sweatshirt and a walking stick. He will be missed by many family and friends. Visiting hours are on Sunday October 31, 2021 from 1:00-4:00 at Rutherford Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High Street, Worthington, OH 43085. At 11:00 AM on Tuesday November 2, a celebration of life will be held in the church in the Ohio Village at the Ohio History Connection, 800 E. 17th Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43211. Brunch will be served at the hotel following the celebration. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Ohio Village.
