Ruth E. Mast, age 93, died April 4, 2022, at home surrounded with love from her family and friends. Born March 10, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio to Donna (Koontz) and DeWitt Moats. Ruth married the love of her life, Lowell R. Mast on June 24, 1950, who together displayed an enviable model of marriage for over 70 years. In addition to being devoted to raising three children, caring for extended family, and doting over her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Ruth was the proprietor of The Hearth Stone Art & Antiques in Dublin, Ohio and worked as a medical secretary. She first attended college when a grandmother, graduating from Ohio Dominican College and Kent State University with a Masters in Library Science. She was awarded The Columbus Dispatch Community Service Award in 1995 for her volunteer service establishing libraries for those served by Homeless Families Foundation and promoting literacy. She was pleased when her art was chosen for Ohio Living’s annual calendar and delighted when her letters to the editor were published in The Columbus Dispatch. Ruth is survived by her son Craig (Kathy), daughter Kathy Mast Kane (George) and daughter-in-law Kim Richards Mast; grandchildren Scott Palmer, Jeff Palmer, Danica Kane (Zach Fredin), Mitchell Kane, and DeWitt Kane; great grandchildren Christopher (Hailey), Savannah and Tacoma Palmer. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Lowell in May, 2021 and her beloved son Keith Alan in 1982. She was an avid supporter of WOSU, the public library system and those experiencing homelessness. Continuing in her giving way, she chose to participate in a Parkinson’s research study after death. The family warmly thanks “Team Ruth”: Ann Marie, Sonya, Kari, Liza, Brittany, Macey, Abby and Teresa of the Hay Group, Dr. Stuart J. Kanter and OhioHealth Hospice for their loving care. A memorial service officiated by Dr. Mark Arni and burial will be held at Sunset Cemetery on Monday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m. In remembrance, take a hike, cheer on the Buckeyes, eat Jello with whipped cream, watch “Poldark,” write a poem, wear “loud” socks, delve into family history, work a crossword or jigsaw puzzle, visit an artist’s studio, eat jelly beans, stay in a cabin in the woods, read a book to a child, paint a picture or travel the world, even if only from an armchair.
