October 4, 1954 - June 23, 2021
Lisa W. Holstein, age 66, of Dublin, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2021, under the care of OhioHealth Hospice. Survived by her loving husband of almost 48 years, Michael A. Holstein. Preceded in death by parents, Anne C. Walls and Bernard J. Cunningham. Also survived by brothers-in-law, David (Tracy) and Scott (Nancy). She will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephew, Allison Campbell (William), Heather Holstein, Stephanie Collins (Danny), Hannah Holstein, John Michael Holstein, her aunt, Judith Euen Davis (John), their son Ian (Jacqueline), and grandchildren, Lily and Max. She had a very special relationship since his childhood with her cousin, Brent Evans (Heidi), and was dearly loved by their children, Madelyn and Eleanor. She is also survived by her sister, Marianne Ezell (Michael). A lifelong academic, Lisa held multiple and varied degrees from The Ohio State University, where she also held positions in the Communications Department, in the President’s Office as a special assistant to former President Ed Jennings, and with Ameriflora in a university assignment. She culminated her academic career with a hard-earned PhD in Mass Communication from Indiana University-Bloomington. Both before and after completing her doctoral studies at Indiana University-Bloomington, Lisa, with her brilliant mind and uncommon organizational skills, helped to develop theoretical and empirical work on media coverage of scientific ignorance; that work helped to lay the foundation for what is now the internationally recognized area of Ignorance Studies. Lisa enjoyed several diverse groups of friends throughout her life. Each one was as special as the next. These groups included “The China Dynasty Ladies”, who formed a deep friendship during their Thursday luncheons on Lane Avenue. “The Magnolias” met frequently at restaurants all around Columbus. Lisa’s “later in life” friend group, the wonderful ladies of the BGA—the Bad Golfers’ Association—were not good golfers but made up for what they lacked in skill with enthusiasm. An avid reader, she consumed books at a rapid pace, along with newspapers and magazines, and could often be found with a thick book and a cat on her lap. Lisa loved cats. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, you donate to a reputable cat rescue program or a cancer research organization of your choice. Family will receive friends Monday, June 28, 2021, 4:30-7 PM at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington, OH and 12:30 – 1PM Tuesday, June 29, 2021, with a service to follow at 1PM with Kevin Kellogg officiating.
