Leslie J. Ungerott

It’s easy and natural to be saddened by the loss of such an active spirit and loving mother, wife, friend, and sister. Leslie accomplished great things and impacted many people, so it’s impossible not to grieve this person that loved life so much. Anybody who knew Leslie would know she would want this process to be short because it would take away the time we all have to recall the numerous great memories and get in the way of making new ones together. Leslie Jean Ungerott, 45, passed away on February 13th, 2023. She had her “boys” as she called them at her side. Her sons Carder (18), Chase (14), Ty (12), and her husband Nate spent many hours with her reminiscing and planning more great family times for the future as she would want. She is the daughter of Debra and late father Steven Rohrbach, the sister of Dustin and Trevor Rohrbach, the sister-in-law of Danielle (D’Amore) Rohrbach, Morgan Ungerott, Bryce Ungerott, and Stefanie Ungerott. She is the loving aunt to Charley Hester-Ungerott, Austin Rohrbach, Dylan Rohrbach, Aiden Rohrbach, Drew Rohrbach, and Cohen Rohrbach. She is the adored daughter-in-law of Craig and Chris Willing. Leslie is survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. Leslie was born and raised in St. Mary’s, Ohio where she loved being a Roughrider and is a proud graduate of St. Mary’s High School where she made numerous lifelong friends. Leslie and a couple of her best friends transitioned to life at The Ohio State University where she studied molecular genetics, but more importantly, she added to her already large friend group. The memories from those years could fill up a book from many seasons of co-ed intramural sports, epic spring break trips, and football Saturday game days. Ohio State is also where Leslie and Nate met after their great friend insisted, or maybe demanded, they would be a perfect match. 25 years later she proved to be correct. Leslie and Nate married on November 29th, 2003 in St. Mary’s Ohio, and started their life officially together in Columbus. Eleven months later they welcomed Carder into the world. From that moment on, Leslie loved and cherished her role as a mother and role model. She loved everything about being a mom and poured her time and heart into her boys and supporting the community, sports, and teams they enjoyed which included stints as running the community swim team, school PTO president, and Dublin youth lacrosse director to name a few. If you ever wanted to locate Leslie, you would need to know what field, court, or rink her boys were in at the time. Watching them play was one of her absolute favorite things to do. Leslie set the tone for a family in many ways. She couldn’t sit still. She loved adventure and challenging herself. She loved the outdoors. She was very passionate about her holidays and the decorating and traditions that went with them. She also loved to become educated on and discuss everything from politics to religion, to history, to sports, and everything in between. She also usually “won” these discussions with her depth and intelligence. Leslie’s values of discipline, resilience, work ethic, and community while having fun were on full display through her love of running. Her boys witnessed her train for and complete 10 marathons, 50+ half marathons, a 70.3 Ironman, and spending countless hours biking country roads in Ohio. She loved the running community and the lifelong friends that came with it. You can see a similar work ethic, attitude, and approach in her boys every day. Leslie didn’t talk about doing things, she just did them. This is in the community, with her family and friends, or in her love of the outdoors. She met so many great friends along the way and touched so many people. She provided these friends with so many great and meaningful memories. Breast cancer cut Leslie’s life short. Many of Leslie’s friends will say she is the toughest person they know. Her grit, resilience, and determination were on full display. Her concerns were never for herself. They were for those closest to her and how they would be affected. She approached the battle with cancer just like the rest of her life. What Leslie wouldn’t want is to create sadness for her family and friends. She would want the focus to be on the memories we all have with her and what new memories we will make in her honor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a foundation close to Leslie’s heart, Kateswell (kateswell.org). This organization was founded by her dear friends and 100% of all donations go directly to support cancer patients in Ohio. The Ungerott family is passionate about Kateswell and carrying on their mother's giving legacy. Carder, Chase, and Ty will undoubtedly use their determination and drive from their mother to continue to raise money for this foundation in their mother’s name to help others in Ohio impacted by cancer. Leslie’s family would like to thank the many friends that have graciously offered their support and encouragement during this time. It’s a testament to the deep and lasting friendships Leslie created over the years. A visitation will be held Thursday, February 16th 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Rutherford Funeral Home in Powell, Ohio on 450 West Olentangy Street. A mass to celebrate her life will be Friday, February 17th 12:00 pm at Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church in West Jefferson, Ohio, with burial to follow at Union Cemetery.
