Jean Eleanor Norris

Jean Eleanor (King) Norris passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010 at her residence at Friendship Village of Dublin at age 87. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jerry Gedert, and son Mark and his partner, Gary Checkler, her grandsons, Christopher and his partner, Tim Street, Matthew and wife Tonya, Jeremy and wife Kellie and great-grandchildren, Corey, Marcus, Cassandra and Milo. Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Marcus and her brother and sisters, Howard King, Jan King, Betty DeVere, Marge Stevenson and Dorothy Tuttle. Jean's proudest role was that of a mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a 1940 graduate and class officer of Central High School and active with alumni for many years. Jean taught Sunday school and was active in the Women's Society of Christian Service at Linden Heights Methodist Church where her children were baptized. Jean, her twin Janice, and sisters were active in the Three Star Girls and Rebekah Lodge of the Independent Order of Odd fellows following their mother's leadership in the order of the Eastern Star. Jean was an active in all endeavors in which she participated -- Cub Scouts and Girls Scouts of America; President of the Glenmont PTA; and an active parent volunteer at Dominion Jr. and Whetstone HS. In addition to being a master seamstress Jean was a member of the Ohio Federation of China Decorators. She defined both of these as her "therapy". Jean and Marcus were active together in the Ohio Bell Pioneers Organization for many years and the TelOhio Credit Union. They loved to travel both with their children and during retirement in their Winnebago. They resided for over 50 years in Clintonville on Blenheim Road and were active in the neighborhood watch becoming friends and grandparents to young families as they moved through the neighborhood. They shared a passion for living each and every day to the fullest and in making a difference in the world. Our sincere thanks to our nurses and friends at Friendship Village of Dublin who assisted Jean on her journey and in retaining her dignity despite the effects of Alzheimer's. Family and friends will celebrate Jean's life on Saturday 11:00 a.m. at Overbrook Presbyterian Church at 4131 North High Street. Family will receive friends following the service.
