September 23, 1937 - February 26, 2022
Jim, 84, of Powell, passed away peacefully at home on February 26, after enduring health problems for a lengthy period of time due to Mesothelioma, a rare cancer. He attended North High School and proudly served in the United States Air Force. He was a long-haul truck driver for 35 years and logged millions of accident-free miles working for Interstate System and Yellow Freight. He was a proud member of Teamsters Local 413. He was most proud of being a very accomplished carpenter who could build and repair anything he set his mind to do. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mabel, daughter Tammy Hoosier, infant granddaughter, and sister Judy Crabtree. He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Marilyn, daughters Christy (Jimmy) Knisley, Suzi (Bruce Fagin) Sutherland, Stacie (Pat) Campbell, estranged daughter Teresa Gottier, grandchildren Adam and Emily Campbell, Nick Hoosier, Annie Winders, Stefan Smothers, three great grandchildren, sisters JoAnn Clark and Joy (John) Chapman, numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Katie, who brought him so much joy the past six months. He cherished spending time with his family and his empty chair will leave us heartbroken. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Thomas Sweeney, the nurses and staff at Columbus Oncology for their kindness and care for the past two years. The family thanks the Ohio Health Hospice nurses and team for their compassionate assistance. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 3rd from 6-8 PM at Rutherford Funeral Home, 450 West Olentangy Street, Powell, OH 43065, where a memorial service will be held on Friday, March 4th at 12:30 PM with burial to follow at Kingwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers those who wish may contribute to Faith Mission, 245 N. Grant Ave., Columbus, OH 43215, as Jim always wanted the hungry to have a meal.
