Douglas Bruce Schart

May 25, 1954 - March 21, 2022

Douglas Bruce Schart, 67, of Powell, Ohio passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of late Neil and Martha Schart of Brecksville, Ohio. He was a graduate of Brecksville High School, class of 1972. After high school, he attended The Ohio State University. He enrolled in a variety of college courses and joined the ski team. In the spring of 1973 he got a job at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, and operated the Sky Ride. While there he met Diana L Hartman. In July of 1976 they married, and shared the next 45 years. After school, Doug worked building and servicing swimming pools for Mallory Pools, in Columbus, Ohio. He then ran his own pool business, Doug’s Pools, for 15 years before retiring in 2018. Doug and Diana had two children, both boys, Doug Jr and David. He spent his summers attending and coaching his sons’ baseball games. The family would also travel to Lake Erie to jet ski and enjoy the islands on their yacht. The fall was for Ohio State Football, and in the winter the family would take ski trips. They took trips to Vermont, Canada, California and Colorado. Doug was particularly fond of Steamboat Springs in Colorado. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Doug Schart Jr of Columbus Ohio; David Schart and wife Melanie of Powell, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Neil Schart Jr. Arrangements entrusted to Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 West Olentangy Street, Powell, Ohio 43065.
