Zachary Hummel

Zachary Adam Christian Hummel (ZACH), age 29, of Dublin, OH, has slipped away. He was born on December 29, 1986, in Des Moines, IA, into the loving arms of Carol and William J. Hummel. Beyond expectation, God reached for Zachary on November 18, 2016, and carried him on a journey to bliss. Left behind and heartbroken are Zach’s Mom and Dad; brothers Nicholas Hummel, Todd Farrimond and Matthew Farrimond; sisters Nichole Farrimond, Melinda Hummel (Starikova) and Susan Hummel (Robinson); sisters-in-law Lisa Farrimond and Lucy Farrimond; brothers-in-law Andrei Starikov and Andrew Robinson; niece Marlee Hummel; and nephews Sean Bemis (Megan and their infant Addison), Garrett Farrimond, and Will and Noel Robinson. Also saddened and weeping are maternal grandmother Joy Segraves (Grandma); uncles Gary Segraves (Gwen) and Don Hummel; loved ones who fill his family tree; and many friends that cross the globe. Together, we have been shaken by an inconceivable loss. Zachary was preceded in passing by paternal grandparents Pauline and William M. Hummel (Grandma and Grandpa), maternal grandfather Robert G. Segraves, Jr. (Pop-Pop), Carolyn Hummel (Auntie Care), Kathy Segraves Ball (Aunt Kathy) (David), and Boxer-buddy Dante. Blessed now by grace, Zachary is embraced in everlasting reunion and safely searching the heavenly realm. While his carefree youth and formative years were shaped in Dublin with family and friends, the adventures Zach later experienced defined the young man he came to be. Always an independent-minded free spirit, Zachary traveled and explored extensively. Fishing was his passion and his pleasure. From youngest days into adulthood, he was captivated by the alluring waters of ponds and rivers; oceans from the Atlantic to the Pacific; and destinations he charted to Canada, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, South America, and Southeast Asia. Zach was drawn to the Caribbean, and his next port-of-call was the Virgin Islands. Open seas and serene breezes spoke Zachary’s name. He dreamed of and planned to sail around the world. He was brave and bold, soaking up life and drenching himself in discovery and learning. Comforting for us are our beautiful memories of Zachary and the loving thoughts of others whose lives he impacted and inspired. Following is a quote that he lived by and often shared: Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. Vaya con Dios, mi amor! May you fish peaceful waters for eternity. We are promised to see you again.
