Wilbur D. "Bill" Ulrey

Wilbur “Bill” Ulrey, age 89, of Dublin, OH, died at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, November 17, 2014. Born July 16, 1925 in Lima, OH to the late Ralph and Gladys Ulrey, Bill was raised on the family farm near Kalida, OH. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII in the South Pacific from 1943-46. After the war, Bill married his wife Harriet on July 19, 1948. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1950. Bill was Chief Steel Estimator for J. T. Edwards Company for 36 years before his retirement. Bill and Harriet moved to Dublin in 1957. Together they raised their children and were very active in community service. Bill was a past City Council member and President of Dublin City Council for 12 years and served on many Boards and Committees for the city throughout his lifetime. He was Past President of the Dublin Athletic Boosters, Boy Scout Leader of Troop 185 1966-71, and accompanied Troop 185 to Philmont Scout Ranch in 1970. He was a member of the local Cardinal Winne’s, Metro V and the Dublin Recreation Center Senior Group. Most of all, Bill enjoyed the many years of spending time with his family and friends. He loved traveling with his wife Harriet throughout 49 states-where he liked mining for gems along the way-and enjoyed many years of their annual family vacations at the beach. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his beloved wife Harriet and his sisters Pauline and Bonnie. He is survived by his children: Debbie (Donald) Fracasso, Brad (Cheryl) Ulrey and Jan Ulrey; his grandchildren: Donnie (Heather) Fracasso and Lauren (Ryan) Steinbauer; his great-grandchildren: Bobby, Lydia and Madalyn Steinbauer and Gabe and Lilly Fracasso; sisters Jean (Bill) Harrison and Barbara (Larry) Schafer; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
