Tom Jerman

On Tuesday, April 21st, 2020 the angels came to lead Tom Philips Jerman into paradise to be with our Lord. Tom was 85 years young, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 11, 1934, lived his early life in Worthington and graduated from Worthington High School. Tom spent some time at Ohio State University and with the Navy Seabees. He raised his family in Marietta after marrying his high school sweetheart, Nancy Down, and spent his later years in Akron, Ft. Myers/Cape Coral, Savannah and then back to his hometown of Columbus. He is preceded in death by his brother, David, his parents, Luther Jerman and Helen Metcalf Jerman, his ex-wife, Nancy Down Davis, his sons, D. Mitchell (Mitch) Jerman and Derek (Dirk) Jerman, and his granddaughter, Molly Jerman. He is survived by his daughter, Deb (Debbie) Jerman Rose, his grandsons, Stephen (Kelly) Rose and David Rose, his great-grandchildren, Logan, Jack and Emma, his brothers Paul (Richel) Jerman and Steve (Barbara) Jerman, and his sister Jane (Jerry) Kyle, four nieces, Anita, Jody, Tracy and Kate and three nephews, David, Mark and Matthew. Tom loved the open road and any adventure that awaited him. He never met a stranger and always made you feel that you were the most important person when he was with you. Tom was a salesman, sold everything from clothes, boots, hats and finally for many years, funeral supplies for Messenger. He had lifelong friends from grade school, attended his reunions regularly and met with 10-20 of his old friends for lunch every couple of months for the last several years. He loved his dogs, everyone else’s dogs and always fed them from the table. Tom was a lifelong Buckeye and Patriots fan, loved all sports and enjoyed watching his sons, grandsons and great-grandsons play sports. Tom loved a good practical joke, always knew how to make you laugh, and how to make life not so serious. He was a spiritual man, tender, and a great listener. Everyone who knew him was blessed to be in his presence. He would say he was blessed to have been in ours. Tom’s spirit will live on through all of us and so many wonderful memories. He will be watching over all of us with a smile and a nudge to do something unexpected. Tom had a friend who said we don’t say goodbye, we say so long. So long to our friend, Tom, we will see you again. Friends may call on Friday July 9, 2021 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High Street in Worthington, Ohio, where a prayer service will be held at 8:00pm.
