Theresa M. Cochran

Theresa M. Cochran, lovingly known to so many simply as “Mammy,” passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, at The Avalon of Lewis Center at the age of 87. Born on December 4, 1938, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, Theresa was the daughter of Michael A. and Theresa M. Lorenzo. She was welcomed into Heaven by the love of her life, her husband, H. Allen Cochran; her parents; and her brother, Michael Lorenzo. She leaves behind the family that was the center of her world: her children, A.C. (Debbie) Cochran, Theresa Cochran, and Lisa (Bob) Satin; her beloved grandchildren, Michael (Kylie) Cochran, Shannon (Abbey) Cochran, Noah (Allison) Cochran, Ryan (Mikah) Cochran, Julia Satin (Nick Peacemaker), and Matthew Satin; and her precious great-grandchildren, Sadie, Lenora, and Sammy Cochran. Every one of them knew without question how deeply they were loved. A proud graduate of Muskingum College, Theresa dedicated much of her life to teaching. She shared her knowledge as a business teacher at Madison High School, Cambridge High School, Muskingum Area Technical College, and later as an adjunct instructor at Zane State College. She loved helping others discover their potential and carried that same encouragement into every part of her life. To try to list everything Theresa did would be impossible. She was involved in countless ministries, organizations, and community activities throughout her life. She believed that if there was a way to help someone, you simply did it. She gave her time generously, served faithfully, and loved wholeheartedly. But if you asked Theresa what her greatest accomplishment was, she would never mention her career or the many organizations she served. She would tell you it was her family. She was born to be a wife, a mother, and especially a “Mammy.” Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. Whether she was celebrating their accomplishments, cheering them on, offering advice, or simply wrapping them in one of her famous hugs, she made each one feel like they were the most important person in the world. Her Catholic faith was the foundation of everything she did. She loved the Lord deeply and found great joy in sharing her faith with others. She didn’t just talk about God’s love—she lived it every day through her kindness, compassion, generosity, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people. Theresa truly never met a stranger. Everyone who crossed her path was treated like family. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, welcomed, and loved. And, of course, there was always a hug. If someone told her, “I’m not a hugger,” she would laugh and say, “But I am!” That simple phrase perfectly captured who she was. Her hugs were more than greetings—they were expressions of acceptance, comfort, and unconditional love. Her family finds comfort knowing she is now reunited with those who have gone before her and resting in the presence of the Lord she loved so dearly. While her hugs can no longer be felt, the warmth of her love will remain in the hearts of everyone blessed enough to know her. A life so full of faith, love, generosity, and joy cannot be measured by years alone, but by the countless lives she touched. Her legacy lives on in her family, her students, her friends, and all who were fortunate enough to receive one of her hugs. We would like to thank The Avalon of Lewis Center and VITAS Healthcare for the care and support that they provided our mom with over the past eight months. Family and friends will be received from 9:30am- 10:30am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 10700 Liberty Rd, Powell, OH on Monday August 10, 2026. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated immediately following at 10:30 am with a luncheon following the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: St. Theresa’s Outreach at St. Peter St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Powell, Ohio 43065 A private family burial will take place at a later date.
