Susan Elaine Scritchfield

Susan Elaine Scritchfield passed away peacefully on Oct. 22, 2018, after ten months of great effort against a rare neuro-endocrine cancer. She wrote this obituary while receiving hospice care with OhioHealth, where she had been a contingency social worker for the past eight years: I was born Feb. 26, 1951, in beautiful Bedford, Penn. I was preceded in death by my wonderful father, James Roy Scritchfield. I am survived by my beloved husband, Dr. Emil R. Pinta, who kept me laughing, well-cared for and well-informed on daily events. Also surviving are my dear Mom, Evelyn Scritchfield, who along with my family are the best the Lord could give—sister Pamela Montgomery (dearest John) and their marvelous son Tyler Montgomery (Michelle Vassallo); and sister Jamie Elder (RIP Tom) whose children are the best nieces and nephews in the world: Matt (Becky) Elder, Matthew and Elizabeth, and Erin (John) Shonkwiler and Caleb. Later I was gifted with such amazing stepdaughters and grandchildren, all wonderful joys: Wendy Pinta and children David Emil and Clara Grace Gallapoo, and Jill Pinta Guerra (Alex) and children Emilie Petersen, Maximus and Mary Gillespie. I was privileged to earn a degree at the University of Pittsburgh, and graduate degrees from the OSU John Glenn School and OSU College of Social Work. My main life’s work was as a Medical Social Worker. Later I was fortunate to have deeply meaningful experiences helping staff and patients as Patient Education Manager at the OSU James Cancer Hospital. Originally a member of the Church of the Brethren in Bedford, I later discovered Liberty Presbyterian Church in Delaware, which filled me with God, music and spiritual inspiration. I attended wonderful groups there on Tuesday mornings, and had amazing friendships from my mission service to El Olvido, Honduras, and loving God-given relationships with friends and families at our sister-church, Brazos Abiertos. Accidentally landing in Ohio many years ago, I enjoyed the greatest friends who are my family by choice-- Cathy, Lea, Tami, Tawny, Marsha, Diane, Judy, Carol and the Buckeyes Cruisers. We laughed, loved, travelled and enjoyed so much together! Getting to other beautiful areas in the world was such a delight! I also have the best neighbors and tennis mates in Worthington Hills that one can find. And I still have so many sweet schoolmates and friends from Bedford High School! I so much enjoyed my work in pottery glazing and glass fusion, and in working and teaching stained glass. I am so thankful to my parents and grandmothers for graciously bestowing on me the gift of God’s everlasting presence and faith. Susan asked that her loved ones remember her and recall all the good lessons from her life. She knew when she went on, that there would be happy radiations of caring and love for all.
