Sunny Rae LaTaille

The family of Sunny Rae LaTaille, age 63, mourn her passing due to complications from her 4 year journey with cancer in her Dublin home, on Sunday, March 27, 2011; yet celebrate her life as a shining example of love, strength, faith, and service to others. She was born in Elmira, New York but moved when very young to Southern California where she developed a lifelong love of the water. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Cal State Long Beach and studied higher learning in both Alabama and in Ohio earning Master’s degrees from both the University of Southern Alabama, and Findley University all while excelling at the daunting task of raising a family and overcoming some of life’s most difficult obstacles. Her life personified perseverance. Any hardship for Sunny was a simply an invitation to the joy of growth and something to be overcome to get to what was next in life. A member of Smoky Row Brethren Church, she was a woman of deep unwavering faith and loved God with all her heart, mind, and soul. Sunny taught in public schools and took great joy in her students and co-workers, but beyond that even, she was a Teacher in the purest sense of the word, not just in vocation. True, she was tenured educator with 30 plus years of service, the bulk of which was spent teaching ESL for the Dublin City School District, but she also educated by example. She was a prototype of a good human being to anyone that was fortunate to come in contact with her quick wit, disarming frankness, and positive disposition. She also loved to travel, especially to the ocean her love of life was exemplified by her attraction to water, whether it was as beautiful young girl surfing in California, or as a certified scuba diver navigating the Gulf of Mexico, or as an elder stateswoman doing Water Aerobics at the local YMCA in Columbus. Sunny was preceded in death by her second husband, William Eckmayer; her mother Faith; and her father George. She is survived by her loving husband, William; children Wesley, Thomas (Beth), Brent, and Debi; brothers Steve and George (Jeannie); sister Sharon (Dan); grandchildren Gabrielle, Will, and Danielle; Sunny’s father-in-law, Richard; brother-in-law, John(Lori); sister-in-law Patricia(Ray), James (Mary) and many nieces and nephews. Sunny’s family would also like to thank Irma for staying up many sleepless nights at the hospital with her and express a gratitude for all the love and support received from her friends. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. THURSDAY, March 31, 2011 at SMOKY ROW BRETHREN CHURCH, 7260 Smoky Row Rd., Columbus, OH 43235.
