Sue Neal Barnett Martin

Sue Neal Barnett Martin, beloved wife of David C. Martin of Powell, OH, died Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH. She was born December 8, 1937 in Beckley, WV the daughter of the late Howard and Jewel Barnett. She was raised in Huntington, WV and graduated from Huntington East High School. Sue earned her nursing degree from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Huntington where she also taught nursing classes. She was a Registered Nurse for 40 years, during which she worked at C&O Hospital in Huntington, Piqua Memorial Hospital in Piqua, OH, Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH, Montpelier Hospital in Montpelier, OH, Quadco Rehabilitation Center in Stryker, OH, Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, OH, South Community Behavioral Health Center in Kettering, OH and Six County Mental Health Association in Zanesville, OH. In addition to Powell, OH, David and Sue also enjoyed living and working in the following cities: Sidney, Piqua, Columbus, West Unity, Kettering, Zanesville and Marietta, OH. Sue was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her friends, her grandchildren and her granddogs. She also enjoyed playing bridge, reading books, working crosswords and jigsaw puzzles and playing Words with Friends. Sue was especially renowned amongst her grandchildren for inspiring a tradition of ordering and enjoying her dessert before the rest of her meal. All who knew Sue will miss her sharp wit, her charm and her compassion. Sue is survived by her husband of 53 years, David C. Martin and daughters Jennifer Martin (Michael Born) of Lewis Center, OH, Rebecca Kahn (James Kahn) of Chalfont, PA and Pamela Hahn (Michael Hahn) of Medina, OH. She is also survived by her brother Charles Barnett of Dayton, OH and her seven grandchildren: Catherine Jewel “Katie-Jewel” Martin, Joseph Blackwell, Abigail Born, Sydney Kahn, Eric Hahn, Danielle Kahn and Emily Hahn. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00p.m. SATURDAY, MARCH 19, 2016 at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 West Olentangy Street, Powell, OH 43065 (614)-792-1471 where family will welcome friends before the service from 11:00a.m-1:00p.m. Sue’s brother-in-law Reverend L. C. “Carl” Martin will officiate the service. Private burial will be observed by the family at David’s Cemetery in Dayton, OH.
