RUTH GRESHAM

RUTH SALLEE GRESHAM was born on June 25, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, to Charles Prentus Sallee and Azelia Sallee. She was the second oldest of five siblings: Bertha Sallee, Prentus Sallee, Charles Sallee, and Brian (Crystal) Sallee. She was preceded in death by her parents. Ruth attended Drew and Gillespie Elementary Schools before graduating from Harlan High School. She went on to attend Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Therapy. She later received her Master's degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign. During her time on campus, Ruth also served as a dormitory director. After earning her Master's degree, Ruth embarked on a distinguished career at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She was first hired as Assistant Director of Student and Staff Development and later served as Director of Recruitment and Placement in the Office of Minority Affairs. In recognition of her dedication and leadership, she received Ohio State's Distinguished Affirmative Action Award. She concluded her tenure at the university as Director of Off-Campus Student Services. Her deepest devotion was to her three beloved sons, whom she loved dearly and for whom she made countless sacrifices: Samuel (Cayla) Gresham Ill, Ryan Gresham, and Charles (Kathryn) Gresham. Whenever someone mentioned her grandchildren, Ruth's heart would beam with joy and love. She treasured each of them: Paige Gresham, Isabella Gresham, Gabriella Gresham, Stella Gresham, Carina Marie Gresham, Antonio Valentino, André Braxton, Riley Gresham, and her great-grandson, Mathew Kirkham. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted friend, Jennifer McGruder; her cherished friend, who was like a sister, Samantha Gerth; and a host of beloved cousins and friends. Ruth was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mentor, and friend whose warmth and kindness brought light to everyone she met. Her beautiful smile and loving spirit will be cherished and remembered always. A memorial service will be held Saturday August 8, at 3:00pm at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home 515 High St. Worthington, Ohio.
