Ronald and Marilyn Wehner

Ronald Joseph Wehner, 92, and Marilyn Ann Wehner, 87, passed away peacefully in their home. Ron and Marilyn met in 1959 in Dayton, while she was attending St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing and he was a student at the University of Dayton. They were married for 65 years and passed within 54 hours of each other. Ron and Marilyn were parishioners at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Clintonville for over 52 years. Ron was born in 1933 in Dayton. He was a longtime trust auditor for Bank Ohio, National City Bank and PNC. Ron served in the US Navy from 1952-1956 in the Korean War. He loved to tell stories about his time in the service. Ron was a man of deep faith, and he loved God, his wife, and family above all. Ron was driven by a passion to help others, and volunteering was a big part of his life: he served at St. Lawrence Haven (delivering food baskets), started St. Vincent DePaul at Our Lady of Peace, Clintonville Resource Center (where he started monthly dinners), and many OLP festivals (where he helped to organize the first OLP festival in 1984). Ron instilled a servant heart in his family by taking his kids with him to do volunteer work. Marilyn was born in Cleveland in 1938. She was a nurse at heart, and was a longtime employee of Mt. Carmel and Ohio Health. She passed on her love of nursing to two daughters and one granddaughter, all RNs. Marilyn also loved to volunteer in her community: she served on the school board at OLP and Bishop Watterson, for UNICEF, on several Girl Scout cookie drives, the Shawl Ministry at OLP, and she was the cook and server for many of Ron’s various community meals. Ron and Marilyn leave behind a large and loving family; their home in Clintonville was the center of countless family gatherings for five decades. They were loving parents to five children: Chris [Tim] Morford, Julie [Michael] Caswall, Ron [Mary] Wehner, Dan [Sheila] Wehner, and Jenny [John] Burley. They had 13 grandchildren: Mark and Annie Morford; Kelly, Joe and Niki Paplaczyk; Ron and Nina Wehner; Daniel, Beth, and Thomas Wehner; and Maddi, Emily, and Jordan Burley. They had 4 great grandchildren: Teddy and Lizzy Wehner; Shiloh Paplaczyk, and Bennett Burley. In addition to all of the above, Ron and Marilyn are survived by Ron’s sister Marlene Wehner; Marilyn’s sister Roberta [Mel] Glerup; and many well-loved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be on Friday, January 9 at Our Lady of Peace Church, 20 E. Dominion Blvd, Columbus. There will be a viewing at 10 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 11, with interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Lewis Center to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clintonville Resource Center or St. Vincent DePaul, Columbus.
