Robert A. Ylitalo

YLITALO Robert Adrian Ylitalo age 73, died July 24, 2016 at the Country Club Rehabilitation Campus in Delaware, Ohio after a long illness of Alzheimer’s disease. He is preceded in death by his parents Sulo and Helen (Heino) Ylitalo. Robert is survived by his wife of 20 years Carol A. Ylitalo of Lewis Center, Ohio. Also he is survived by his brothers Gerald (Jane) Ylitalo of Cohasset, MN, Warren Ylitalo of Hobe Sound, FL, and a sister Judy Roebuck of Hobe Sound, FL., Mother-in-law, Evelyn Maxwell of Las Vegas, Neveda; brother-in-law Michael (Debbie) Maxwell of Hilliard, Ohio and sister-in-law Deborah Balliet of Las Vegas, NV, as well as many nieces and nephews. Robert spent many weekends of his youth with either set of grandparents helping on their farms. Both sets of grandparents came directly from Finland and spoke no English. Robert said their communication consisted of a little Finnish but mostly nods, points and smiles. Robert’s father owned Itaska Oil Company where Robert worked during his high school years. Robert graduated from Greenwood High in Colrain, MN. He then served in the United States Army. After his service he attended University of Minnesota Duluth campus and was a member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. Leaving there he went to Brown College for his communication degrees. The Ylitalos also owned a home on Singer Island, FL and in the late 1960’s Robert chose to remain in Florida. There in Palm Beach County Robert had his own late night radio show playing soft music, sometimes getting calls from people like Burt Reynolds, and Rod Stewart. Later his career took him into TV. After many years he chose to go into sales, where he was the top salesman in the state of Florida often. Robert was an avid golfer, enjoyed crosswords puzzles, old movies and spending time at his lake house in MN. Visitation with a Masonic service and Prayer vigil conducted by Deacon Carl Calcara. will be from 4:00pm-8:00pm Thursday, July 28, 2016 at RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL 450 West Olentangy St. Powell, Ohio 43065. A funeral service will be held at the Chapel at Resurrection Cemetery, Route 23 North in Lewis Center at 12:30 PM on Friday, July 29, 2016 with Father David Sizemore officiating. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Robert’s family wishes to thank the entire staff at Country Club Rehabilitation Campus for the patience and loving care given.
