Purificacion Gamboa

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Purificacion Pagaduan Gamboa, on Sunday, April 26, 2020. She will be remembered as a kind, caring and generous person. She was known for her strong personality, her beauty and her wit. Her home was always open to visitors to whom she would share whatever food she had, a practice she carried until her last days. She will be greatly missed but we rejoice in knowing that God has welcomed her into His loving arms. Puring was born on November 10, 1917 in Nueva Ecija, Philippines, to the late Ignacio Pagaduan and Josefa da Jose Rivera, married to Jose V. Gamboa, and was widowed for 41 years. Puring was a devoted mother, an incredible grandmother and loving great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her son Luis Gamboa, son-in-law Gordon Mawhinney, grandson Willi Gamboa, and sisters Luz Pagaduan and Estela Reyes. She was deeply loved by her family: children Tess Mawhinney, Hector (Aida) Gamboa, Amy (Prospy) Hernandez, Cheli (Steve) Banta; sister Arsenia Cabrera; grandchildren, Luis Jr. (Pinky), Brian (Pauline) Banta, Amy (Fred) Durant, Kirk (Hannah) Mawhinney, Karl (Alyssa) Mawhinney, Cristine Gamboa, Marian (Chris) Kyriacou, and Alyssa Hernandez; great grandchildren Maia Gamboa, Linc and Finn Banta, Parker and Adelyn Durant, Caitlyn and Isaac Mawhinney and Kal Kyriacou, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Puring graduated from the Philippine Normal College in Manila, Philippines with a degree in Home Economics. She taught at different schools in the provinces around Manila. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Rosary Prayer groups, Philippine-American Seniors of Columbus Ohio (PHILSECO) and Philippine-American Society of Central Ohio (PASCO). We are especially thankful to Fr. James Black, Fr. Stephen Smith, Deacon Steve Petrill, Romy Riebe, Nancy Wollenberg, Bev Bucher, Aurora Avancena and the Homebound ministry of St. Joan of Arc for showing God’s love for her. Special acknowledgement to the staff of The Grand for their care and commitment. We will honor her wish to be buried with her husband in the Philippines.
