Nancy Ruth Middeler

Nancy R. Middeler (The Nanner, Van Woman, Ruthie), 82, of Columbus, Ohio died peacefully on October 20, 2022 in Columbus, Ohio. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio at Bethesda Hospital to parents Norma M. Van Nottingham (nee Schindler) and Louis E. Van Nottingham Jr. on December 31, 1939. 1962 was a banner year for Nancy as she married the love of her life Thomas A. Middeler on March 3rd at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. That same year she graduated from the University of Cincinnati with her degree in Elementary Education. She ended the year by giving birth to her first of 5 children on her birthday Dec 31st. After a few years of living on a hobby farm in Felicity, Ohio, they made their way to Columbus, Ohio and settled in the Clintonville neighborhood and became long-time members of the Immaculate Conception Parish. After her children were grown Nancy went back to full-time teaching. She was the kindergarten teacher at Lincoln Park Elementary with Columbus Public Schools. She loved nothing more than teaching children shapes, colors, letters, how to play well, fly a kite and make brownies. Nancy enjoyed many hobbies, one of which was traveling. Some of her favorite places to visit included Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Europe, Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos. Nancy was an avid Cincinnati Reds baseball fan and a true doll collector. Nancy had an outgoing personality as she never met a stranger. She had many friends near and far that were very important to her. None more so than her childhood friend Dottie that she boasted were friends for over 70 years. Her sense of humor sustained her as well as decorating for all the holidays. She created magical Christmases for her children. Her philosophy in life, which she liked to tell her children often, was to always have something to look forward to. She is survived by her children, Mary (Paul), Jenny (Margie), Brigid (Ron), Tommy (Aehwa), her son-in-law Greg Kinsey; her 7 grandchildren Zac (Janessa), Allena (Wilber), Amanda, Brianna, Sean, Megan and Lisa; her brother Louis Van Nottingham and sister-in-law Rosemary Tewes, as well as many nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Tom of 39 years in 2003, her daughter Kristine A. Middeler Kinsey in 2006, and her sisters Mary Jane Bristow in 2021 and Lynne McMahan in 2022. The family wishes to thank all the caregivers and staff at Danbury Senior Living as well as the Capital City Hospice nurses for taking such good loving care of our mom. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am Friday, October 28, with the Memorial Service starting at 1:00 pm at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St, Worthington, OH 43085. Burial to follow at Union Cemetery.
