Maureen Amorose

Alice Maureen (Fitzpatrick) Amorose, age 70, of Worthington, Ohio passed away on September 13, 2016 at Kobacker House after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 5, 1946 to Thomas C. and Margaret M. (McDonald) Fitzpatrick. Maureen was a member of Our Lady of Peace parish. She graduated from St. Mary of the Springs Academy in 1964. She earned a BS in Education from the College of St Mary (now Ohio Dominican University) and an MA in Education from The Ohio State University. She started her career as a classroom teacher with the Columbus Public Schools, then went on to work as a reading specialist and Language Arts Teacher Leader with the Worthington Public Schools. After retiring she served as a Praxis Evaluator for the Ohio Department of Education, Literacy Coach with the Columbus schools, and Adjunct Professor at the Columbus branch of Ashland University where she was honored as a Professional Fellow in 2014. Over the years she volunteered at Twigs of Children’s Hospital, Homeless Families Foundation, American Red Cross, and Evening Street School. She enjoyed reading, quilting, Mahjong and spending time with family and friends. Maureen was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Josephine Kennedy Fitzpatrick; sister-in-law, Lynn (Scanton) Fitzpatrick; niece, Erin Fitzpatrick. Survived by husband, Richard; children, Monica A. (David) Shaner and Andrew P. (Brigitte) Amorose; grandchildren, Devin E. and Anna M. Shaner; brothers, Michael J. (Janice) Fitzpatrick and Thomas J. Fitzpatrick; brothers-in-law, Clem (Sunny), Phil (Frances), Dave (Margie), Tony (Suzanne Walker) and Tom (Victoria Adams) Amorose; sister-in-law, Mary (Tom Rice) Amorose; members of the Josephine Kennedy family; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Kobacker House for their compassionate care during this difficult time. Visitation will be held at the Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High St., Worthington, Ohio on Monday Sept. 19, 2016 from 4 to 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church on Tuesday Sept. 20, 2016 at 10 am with Msgr. John Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at j. Liu restaurant 6880 North High St. Worthington, Ohio 43085 from 1 PM to 3 PM.
