Maryann Kondik

Maryann Kondik, age 87, formerly of Powell, OH, passed away Friday, February 25, 2012 in Petaluma, CA from a cerebral hemorrhage. Born July 26, 1924 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of the late Amanda and Fred McDowell. She is survived by her son Paul (Kate) Valles; stepchildren: William Kondik, Sue (David) Imes, Sally Cornwell, Deborah (David) Houghton; grandchildren: Dimitre, Nate, Heather, Addy, Drew (Katie) and Travis; and great-grandchild Kinsley. She is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years Robert Kondik and stepson Robert Kondik, Jr. She was a graduate of Uhrichsville High School, Class of 1942, Columbus Business University 1959 and Ackerman Real Estate School 1971. She was a telephone operator for Ohio Bell 1943-54, a bookkeeper with 7Up Bottling Co. 1958-61, secretary/accounting with Grandview High School 1961-64, secretary/receptionist to the Superintendent of Schools in Upper Arlington 1964-66, secretary at Columbus Commissary Co., Owens Corning Fiberglas Co. 1966-73, real estate agent HER Company 1973-83, office manager Sonic Messenger Service 1983-90, owner of “Side Door Antiques” in Powell 1990-94. She was also an artist, painting in oils and needlepoint, beauty contest winner, puppeteer, Tupperware Lady, successful contestant on the Spook Beckman TV show, Welcome Wagon Hostess, model for a local advertising agency, and for years she was the secretary of her investment club. She was an independent woman ahead of her time, but also knew the old skills of growing and canning food, sewing her own clothes, and had the knowledge of spinning wool and making soap. She was a gourmet cook, could mix a superb martini, was a great friend and wonderful mother. She enjoyed spending her summers with family and friends up at Lake Erie on the boat and in her boathouse. Her outer beauty was a reflection of her soul who loved God and God loved her in return. Over the years she was a member of the Port Washington Moravian Church, the Upper Arlington Lutheran Church and the New Hope Church in Powell. She was also a resident of Trillium Place for several years and had many friends there. She will always be in our hearts. Funeral Service will be held 10:30am. SATURDAY, MARCH 3rd, 2012 at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 West Olentangy St., Powell, OH 43065 (614)-792-1471 where family will welcome friends before the service beginning at 10:00am. Dr. Joel Baer will officiate the service. (The funeral home is located on W. Olentangy St./Powell Rd./SR 750 ¼ mile east of Sawmill Parkway.) Entombment will follow the service at Kingwood Memorial Park, Lewis Center, OH.
