Mary Ruth Sulser

MARY SULSER Mary Ruth Sulser, a lifelong resident of Worthington, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Dublin Methodist Hospital in Dublin, Ohio surrounded by her family. She was born on October 2, 1921 in Columbus, to the late Leonard and Ruth Hole. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Melvin G. Sulser, May 7, 1998, and brother Vernon of Worthington. Mary graduated from Worthington High School in 1939 with Melvin, her future husband, where she was elected class vice president and homecoming queen. She attended The Ohio State University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Mary and Melvin married in 1943 and raised their two sons, Mike and Rick. They were involved with their boys’ many activities, and later with their four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sulser attended the Worthington United Methodist Church. Mary was a strong woman as well as cancer survivor since the 1970’s. An avid golfer, she was a member of Brookside Country Club and York Golf Club. Mary loved Worthington and all it had to offer. She regularly walked uptown or logged miles around the neighborhood as she enjoyed her neighbors and their growing families. Mary was a savvy shopper as well as a consummate hostess, master seamstress and cook. Mary was generous in sharing her array of Christmas cookies and rum cake at the holidays. “Great Grandma Mare” will be missed by her family and friends but leaves a legacy of love, grace and elegance. She is survived by her children: Mike (Colette) Sulser of Wayzata, MN, Rick (Jayne) Sulser of Dublin, OH; grandchildren: Mike (Rachel) Sulser of Minneapolis, MN, Tim (Christine) Sulser of Rome, Italy, Melissa (Gabe) Gayhart of Worthington, OH and Meridith Sulser of NY, NY; great grandchildren Juniper, Bruno, Payton, Dylan, Tyler; and dear cousin Vi Varble of Santa Fe, NM along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Friends may call on Thursday, June 12, from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St. Worthington, Ohio 43085. (614-885-4006). Funeral service will be held at 10AM on Friday, June 13 at Worthington United Methodist Church, 600 High St. Worthington, Ohio 43085 followed by burial at Walnut Grove Cemetery at 5561 Milton Ave. Worthington, OH.
