Mary McCoy Ratterman

Mary McCoy Ratterman 96, wife of the late Ernest Ratterman, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2023 in Columbus, Ohio. They were lovingly married for 72 years and raised 7 children together. Mary was born and raised in Cincinnati, graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in education and taught 2nd grade until starting a family. She led a full life as a selfless and dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother and took great pride in caring for her home and family. Mary continued to keep house and host family gatherings well into her nineties. She loved to cook, share recipes and sit outside to view the flowers in her garden and the birds at her birdfeeder. She practiced a variety of crafts, needlepoint, crochet, and knitting. She was an active member of her community in Worthington Hills participating in bridge clubs, book clubs, and playing tennis into her eighties. Mary also enjoyed traveling with her husband to visit family and friends. She especially loved her time at the family cottage in Cedarville, Michigan. She grew up spending her summers there and she continued to share the legacy of time on the lake with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her later years, she delighted in sitting on the front porch where she could enjoy conversations with her loving family, read a book or just enjoy watching all the lakeside activities. Mary will lovingly be remembered by her seven children, Linda Ratterman, Nancy Morris, Susan Bodnyk, Amy Carman, Dan Ratterman, Jody Devereaux, and Sara Michaels; her eleven grandchildren, Greg Morris, Kaitlin Reyna, Elise Bodnyk, Kyle Bodnyk, Paige Ratterman, Jason Ratterman, Kailey Devereaux, Lauren Ratterman, Sophie Devereaux, Patrick Devereaux, and Addison Michaels; her five great grandchildren, James, Oakley, Kieraun, Kieramarie and Greta; her sister Joan Smith; and her niece and nephew, Kathleen Barry and Kevin Smith. The family wishes to thank the staff at Danbury Senior Living for the loving care they provided Mary and Ernie in their final days. Mary was a devout Catholic and a proud member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church where a Memorial mass will take place on Friday June 9th at 11:00 AM.
