Mary Elaine Ebert

Mary Elaine LeConey Ebert died on March 10, 2021 at Friendship Village of Dublin. Older daughter of Harry and Thelma Barton LeConey was born in Columbus, Ohio and spent her entire life in the surrounding areas, living in Upper Arlington and Dublin. Elaine graduated from North High School and The Ohio State University, College of Agriculture, School of Home Economics. She taught at Jones Jr. High School in Upper Arlington and was a retired teacher from Columbus City Schools, having taught at Valleyview, Garfield, and Sullivant Elementary Schools. She was always eager for the children to learn and better themselves. Elaine was married to Keith Ebert for 64 years. She is survived by husband Keith H. Ebert and son and daughter-in law Jeffrey and Jeanine Ebert of Dublin, granddaughters Emily Elizabeth and Abigail Nicole Ebert, and grandson Kyle Jeffrey Ebert. Also sister and brother-in-law Suzanne and Rex Stentz of Powell, Ohio and their sons Richard, Gary and David Stentz and their families. Elaine was a member of Northwest United Methodist Church, Alpha Delta Pi social sorority, and Alpha Delta Kappa honorary sorority. She was a Martha Jennings Scholar at Capital University for excellence in teaching and listed in the Who’s Who Among American Teachers in 1992. Chosen Educator of the year 1993 from Sullivant Elementary School. Elaine was approved for Delaware County Pioneer Society, having proved ancestors arrived in Delaware County in 1810. She was a life member of CEA-R, a multi-gallon donor of the American Red Cross, Columbus Ohio Home Economists in Home and Community, Franklin County Retired Teacher’s Association. A donation has been made in support of Discovery Park and the “Journey to Learning” sculpture at the STRS Park 275 E. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio and a brick is inscribed for her. She especially enjoyed sewing, reading, crafts, and hiking, especially in the Canadian Rockies. Spending time with family was very important to her. The family would like to thank Capital City Hospice and Comfort Keepers for their compassionate care and services. Elaine’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 W. Olentangy St., Powell. A private family funeral will follow.
