Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Bailey) Bennett, age 87, of Columbus, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Wesley Glen. Betty was born May 24, 1921 in Barnesville, Ohio to the late Ernest David and Cora Marguerite (McBurney) Bailey. She is also preceded in death by her infant son, David Vincent Bennett; sisters, Dorothy Moore, Marjorie Walker and Vivian Betts; brother, Robert Bailey; sister-in-law, Helen Bailey; brothers-in-law, Charles Bennett, Jess Betts, Donald Bonham, Mancel Hunkler and Shirley Moore. She is survived by her husband John William Bennett; children and loved ones, Tyra Ann LaPens (Thomas) of Columbus, Jon William Bennett (Marialice) of Columbus, Candace Lee Bennett (Donald Quest) of Caldwell, OH, Bradley Bailey Bennett (Linda) of Columbus, Mary Beth Morgan (Douglas) of Columbus, Mark Allen Bennett (Kim) of Cincinnati, Nancy May and David Lovell; 18 grandchildren, Thomas LaPens (Susan), Christina LaPens(Joel Diaz), Jay Bennett, Vince Bennett, David Bennett (Lanne), Bryan Bennett (Jess), Adam Bennett(Andria), Seth Bennett, Alexey Bennett, Brandon Morgan, Kate Morgan, Corey Morgan, Cora Bennett, Clayton Bennett, Colin Bennett, Kathryn Quest, Donald Quest, Jr.(Kendra), Christian Quest (Heather); 14 great grandchildren, Brad, Amber, Ashley & Bryce Walters, Vivienne & Alexander Diaz LaPens, Josephine Bennett, Dominic & Vincent Bennett, Julian Baldridge, Mikaela, Delaney & Ashlynn Quest, & Austin Quest; 3 great-great grandchildren, Kenzington & Kharmen Freeman and Kaizen Walters Decker; sister, Virginia Hunkler; brothers, George “Pete” Bailey (Winnie), Ernest “Rube” Bailey (Suzanne); sisters-in-law, Ruth Bennett Bonham and Grethel (GB) Bennett; brother-in-law, Wayne “Mick” Walker; many cousins, nieces, nephews and other beloved family members and friends. Betty was a long time resident of Clintonville, Apple Valley and Howard, Ohio. She was also a member of North United Methodist Church in Columbus. She gave her time and service to many organizations including: United Methodist Women, Literacy Council, Delta Gamma Mothers Club, Campfire Girls of America, Numerous PTA’s, Clintonville Women’s Club, Storytelling League, Columbus Symphony Women’s Assn., Girl Scouts of America and the Apple Valley Garden Club. Betty was a loving homemaker and devoted mother and grandmother. She warmed so many hearts with her sweetness and kindness. Betty loved music, poetry and nature, and had a deep respect for all beings. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Maple Grove United Methodist Church, 7 W. Henderson Rd., Columbus, OH 43214. An interment service will be held 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mt Vernon Memorial Gardens, Mt. Vernon, OH. Family and friends may call 6:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington, OH 43085 and one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday.
