Mary Jo Adams

Mary Josephine Adams, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on January 15, 2016 surrounded by her children. Born to the late Lawrence C and Helen Fox on March 21, 1928 in Columbus Ohio. Preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Leonard "Bus" Adams and her sister, Shirley Kology. Beloved mother of Louise (Keith) Enevoldsen, Elaine Hunter, Robert (Karen) Adams, Thomas (Keeyah) Adams, Steven (Laurie) Adams and Susan (James) Schiering. Mary Jo, as she was called, was the well loved grandmother to 16 grandchildren, Jesse (James) Amendolare, Sarah (Bryan) Gurr, Julie Adams, Samantha Adams, Caroline (Jeffrey) Criswell, Alyssa (Seth) Ritchie, Victoria "Grace" Adams, Kirsten Enevoldsen, Rachel Enevoldsen, John Enevoldsen, Kelsey Enevoldsen, Brian (Katherine) Adams, Kevin Adams, James "Jay" Schiering, Caleb "Cale" Schiering, Joselyn Schiering and 3 great grandchildren, Austin Amendolare, Makayla and Alyssa Gurr, and there is yet another one the way. Friends may call at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street on Saturday January 23, 2016 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm where a Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 pm with Brett Castle officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Susan G Komen Columbus Fund in Mary Jo’s memory. While Mary Jo was a devoted wife and mother, a graduate of The Ohio State University and she was also a woman of diverse interests. Not only did she love her own children dearly, she also loved those not so fortunate. In our youth, each Sunday we would see a parade of foster children brought into our home. She also had a soft spot for small dogs and rescued many from the Humane Society. Mary Jo was a member of Columbus Children's League (CCL), volunteered at Inniswood Metro Gardens, Suicide Prevention line volunteer, was a litany writer for her church and gave of her time to other mothers who were experiencing Postpartum Depression. Outside of her volunteering, she was an avid gardener obtaining her master gardener certification and, again, helping others. She was also an voracious reader, crossword puzzle addict, bird watcher and poet. She loved walks with her children in freshly fallen snow, thunderstorms and bright sunny days. Mary Jo loved the beauty of this earth and early on taught us to save mother earth the best we could. She loved long drives through the country, majestic mountains, blazing orange sunsets, windy days, raindrops on colorful flowers, and the smell of fallen autumn leaves. She hated the winter but worked on the map for her garden and then she came alive in the spring immersing her hands into the muddy earth. Life began in spring with a shovel and rake to clear the winter debris and transplant her lovely flowers. She would sit for hours in the quiet of a summer's eve enjoying the lovely colors of her garden. She loved to hike in the hills of Hocking county where her paternal roots lie. She would run through the graveyard of our ancestors with her grandchildren joyful and laughing with the rest of us. She loved words working her many crossword puzzles and reading everything under the sun. She loved classical music, Frank Sinatra, and the big band sound. She loved art and would drag us to museums all across the country. She loved to travel and offered us a glimpse of this great country each summer. She loved to celebrate our birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas with her offerings of yummy baked goods especially chocolate silk pie. And boy did she love to laugh! Her laugh was contagious especially when she would get together with her sister Shirley and they would laugh together. All these loves and joys have filtered down through the generations touching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thank you Mom....you were a great mom, in fact the best mom....we love and miss you!
