Marilyn E. Kready

Marilyn E. Kready (nee Mechling), age 93, passed peacefully in her sleep on March 27, 2024, at Worthington Christian Village. Born on August 23, 1930 in Sidney, Ohio, she was the second daughter of Clyde Mechling and Florence Nesbitt. A long-time resident of Worthington and Powell, Marilyn was an active member of the Worthington Presbyterian Church, Worthington’s Historical Society, and the Women’s Club. She also enjoyed many years playing golf with her friends at York Temple Country Club. Marilyn greeted everyone with kindness and a smile. Prior to her marriage to Tad in 1955, Marilyn was a Registered Nurse. Together they had four children that were the love of her life. She enjoyed the luxury of staying at home to care for her family, which at any given time included a few dogs, most notably, her beloved golden retrievers Shadow, and Boston. As their family grew to include in-laws and grandchildren, Marilyn and Tad carried on the tradition of “Kready Christmas” that began with Tad’s mother, Maud, over 75 years ago. Marilyn was an accomplished seamstress. She sewed countless prom dresses, matching dresses, and pajamas for her grandchildren. She had a keen eye for design and made many quilts for others. She also knitted Christmas stockings, hats, mittens, and baby blankets. Marilyn would do anything to help anyone in need or want, be it “ice and needle ear-piercing”, emergency grandchildren childcare, painting a wall, wallpapering, or preparing baked goods for the church. Recently, Marilyn spent her final years as a widow enjoying her “new” friends at StoryPoint Senior Living. She held in deep affection special ladies, Cathy, Mary, and several others. They spent many hours laughing, enjoying events, and gathering for Happy Hour. Marilyn was a much-loved Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma, aunt, and friend that will be deeply missed. Preceding her in death, are husband, Edward (Tad) Kready, her only sibling, sister Marjorie (Roy) Sharp, third daughter, Sandy Kready Blankenbeckler, and infant granddaughters, Kelsey and Courtney Kready. Marilyn is survived by daughters, Karen (Jeff) Geist of Columbus, Linda (Kevin) McGann, Aurora, OH, son, Ed (Beverly) Kready Jr. of Powell, son-in-law, John Blankenbeckler of Monroe, NC, ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The immediate family will hold a private burial service. A celebration of life will be held on June 1, 2024 (time to be announced) for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Worthington Presbyterian Church, 773 High Street, Worthington, OH 43085 or the charity of your choice.
