Lois J. Coughlin

Lois J. Coughlin, age 79, Powell, Ohio, passed away on February 26th, 2009, at home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 3rd, 1929, in Nelsonville, Ohio to Ray and Wilda Straits, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her oldest son, Rick, as well as her sisters Louise (Robert) Mitchell, Norma Andrews, Joan Cormany, and brother Jerry Straits. Lois is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Albert, as well as her precious daughter-in-law, Anita; her six children Michael, Kathleen (Bruno) Capogreco, Thomas (Deborah), Al (Debbie), Patricia, and Joseph; ten adoring grandchildren: Kelly, Corey, Diana, Jennifer, Susan, Michael, Erica, Nicholas, Lindsey, and Christina; one great-granddaughter, Ava. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law Curtis “Jack” Andrews of Lancaster, Ohio and John Cormany of Columbus, Ohio, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish the many smiles and happy memories of their "Aunt Lois" forever. Lois married the love of her life, Al, in July of 1952, and started what would soon be a family of seven. She was a homemaker for many years and especially enjoyed any activity that involved her husband, children and grandchildren because she was the kind of individual who embraced togetherness and unity. Lois was a founding and present member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Powell, Ohio. Lois loved life and she especially enjoyed the water and spending time in Florida with loved ones, as well as many fellow “snowbirds”. Lois touched many people through her optimistic attitude and humorous view on life, but above all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. Her family was paramount in her life; she held her husband and loved ones close to her heart and could always mend whatever needed “fixing” in our lives, as only she could. Those who knew Lois knew that she had an uncanny knack for making everybody feel special about themselves. People often commented that her beautiful smile and dimples could light up the room, and they were right! Her joyful demeanor and positive attitude were evident to anybody who met her. She could often be found in the kitchen preparing a wonderful meal for her family or friends and loved to cook from her heart. She enjoyed her daily crossword puzzles and could complete them in no time at all. Doing kind things for others was second nature for Lois. She will be deeply missed by her husband and family, but will live on through her spirit that is present in our lives, because she is the heart and soul of who we are. Heaven now has another Angel. Lois' family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nurses and aides from Home Reach Hospice of Delaware; especially Wendy Haas and Candy Sorensen, as well as her in-home caregivers; including Julie Williams, Kelly Howell, and Helen Stone for the tender and compassionate love and support she received in the final weeks of her life.
