Lavetta Jane Thorne

On behalf of my brothers and myself… Lavetta Jane Thorne, known to all as Jane, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the age of 97. She was born on August 15, 1926, in Centerburg, Ohio to the late Charles and Ursel (Messmore) Jacobs. Preceded in death by her husband, our beloved dad, James (Jim) and daughter-in-law, Ann Thorne. She outlived her brothers Russell and Clyde Jacobs and sister Frances “Tee” Rosch, who all died in their 90’s! She is survived by her cousin, Colleen Messmore Gatton of Lexington, who is 94! She is survived by her children, Jim, Jeff, and Judy – yes, we are all “J’s” – which sometimes resulted in her creating funny combinations of our names. She was always happy and funny without meaning to be – she would jumble words when she could not pronounce them. She would get into many funny situations which are too many to explain, but were usually with her best friend, Jill Ehrick, or her neighbor, Ferne Junkins. She showed the deepest love for her family, her friends, and her neighbors. She loved animals and cared for the pets of neighbors over the years. She was the most kind hearted Lady you would ever want to meet. She was a fantastic old-fashioned cook and was known for her made from scratch, lard crusted pies. She would never let anyone visiting go away hungry. And she made the best potato salad. Her cooking was second to none. She loved playing Backgammon and was a long-time Euchre player which she excelled at – it was amazing how good she was. She did not show mercy when playing with anyone! She was a gracious winner, though! Finally, she is survived by her grandchildren, Erika (Jerad) Chafin Bach, Brandon (Mary) Thorne, Christine (Anton) Thorne Kostin, Jessica “Jess” (Drew [Andrew]) Thorne Kessler. Her six great grandchildren and all their fur babies. Special beloved family friends, the Ehrick family, and Erin Plummer. And, most-beloved, Becky Thorne. Please join her family for her graveside service at Union Cemetery on Thursday, June 13, at 11 a.m. Officiated by her long-time neighbor, John Cramton. A special thank you to Joyce “JJ” Jones for taking care of her at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please donate to Columbus Humane, or the animal charity of your choice.
