Kenneth R. Hammond

Kenneth R. Hammond, 77, of Powell, OH, was surrounded by his family when he passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015. He was born on October 11, 1938 in Buffalo, NY to Elwyn and Charlotte (Pomeroy) Hammond who raised him in Kenmore, NY. Ken graduated from Miami University in Oxford, OH with a degree in Accountancy and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He went on to become a Certified Public Accountant while working at Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young) where he met and married Kathleen Joslyn. Together they moved to Jamestown, NY where they lived for 38 years while Ken worked as an executive for Jamestown Metal Manufacturing, eventually becoming a co-owner and CFO of Jamestown Metal products. Ken believed in supporting and giving back to his community. He held various service positions including: treasurer of First Presbyterian Church, president of the Jamestown chapter of Rotary Club International, mayor of the Village of Celeron, NY and Councilman of the Town of Ellicott, NY. Ken enjoyed playing golf, gardening, quilting, and woodworking and vacationing in Nokomis, Florida. Ken was a wonderful and loving husband and father. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Kathie; his son, Greg Hammond and wife Karen of West Hartford, CT; his daughter, Heidi McDowell and husband Kevin of Powell, OH; and his 5 grandchildren: Kelsey Hammond, Lindsey Hammond, Cameron McDowell, Aidan McDowell and Patrick McDowell. Ken was preceded in death by his brother Ron Hammond. Ken is also survived by his son, Ken Hammond and his wife Analie of Hong Kong; his daughter Susan Jones and her husband Paul of Bentonville, AR; and his 5 grandchildren: Eilidh Jenness, Eben Jenness, Timothy Jones, Laura Jones and Daniel Jones. Ken will be remembered and his life celebrated at Funeral Services on MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2015 at 11:00a.m. at NEW HOPE CHURCH, 4739 West Powell Road, Powell, OH 43065. Burial will follow at Cheshire Cemetery, Delaware, OH.
