Kay Frances Brown

Kay Frances Brown, born on September 17, 1941 in Columbus Ohio, ascended into Heaven on October 31, 2022, with family members at her side. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary Delores and Maxwell Paris Wetzel. She was happily married for 58 years to Edwin Munsey Brown and delivered two beautiful daughters; Laura Kay Shilbaq and Cara Beth Gorman; seven grandchildren, Lindsi Kay Gorman, Dr. Zachary Aaron Gorman, Tawny Beth (Savio) Souza, Kobi Bruce Gorman, Rami Ziad Shiblaq, Leila Nadine Shiblaq, and Deena Nadia Shiblaq, and a great-granddaughter Dixie Luanna Gorman. Brothers and sisters-in-law Gregory Lynn and Susan Dorothy Wetzel, Maxwell Samuel and Susan Wetzel. Kay was a member of the Linden McKinley High School Class of ’59; she worked at Columbia Gas of Ohio as a head teller from 1961 to 1966. Kay was a very loving, hardworking wife, mother, caretaker, housewife, Elementary School teacher and Librarian. She was a resident of Worthington for 25 years. She graduated Cum Laude from The Ohio State University on June 9,1978, with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Education. She continued the quest for higher education by graduating with a degree of Master of Arts on August 9, 1985, from OSU, specializing as a Media Specialist. Both degrees were attained while taking care of her home, two daughters, and taking evening classes. Needless to say, she was always working, cooking, cleaning and studying many hours each day while working at Slate Hill Elementary School in Worthington as a Librarian and Media Specialist. She was assigned to teach all of the teachers and students how to use the first desktop computer and also take care of the Library at the same time. Ed and Kay traveled extensively visiting 18 Countries, cruising the Caribbean, Atlantic and Pacific oceans with fast trips to conventions stateside. In 1995, Kay was diagnosed and overcame breast cancer. She then volunteered at Riverside Hospital for two years on the 7th floor (cancer) with a group of other ladies serving hot tea, cookies, donuts and flowers to patients in each room. The last 9 years of living with Alzheimer’s Disease has been a long drawn-out struggle. Kay was diagnosed in August of 2014 by Dr. Douglas Scharre, MD at OSU Wexner Medical Center. She entered Kemper House in Worthington on September 1, 2021 for full care of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. We praise the efforts of the staff at Kemper House and Cap City Hospice for their excellent services and total care. Kay was a long-time member of the Worthington Presbyterian Church and was married at the church on November 16, 1963. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday November 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Kevin Horrigan officiating. Friends may call two hours prior, 9:00AM to 11:00AM at the Church with interment in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please honor Kay with a memorial gift to the Natl Processing Center of the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington DC 20090-6011 with a memo to the Honor of Kay Brown.
