Joseph Frank Stone

Joseph Frank Stone peacefully passed away at Mayfair Village Nursing Home, Columbus, OH, on Thursday, October 16, 2014 after an extended stay. He was born on January 28, 1930, in Lafollette, TN to George F. and Lucy J. (Runions) Stone who both preceded him in death. As a 1949 graduate of Crestline High School in Crestline, OH, he enjoyed choir and band. Joe served his country for 7 years starting in the US Navy and then transferring into the US Air Force. During the Korean Conflict, he was stationed in a mailroom in Japan, sorting mail for service men and women. After returning from the States, he attended The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, graduating with a Bachelor of Accounting Degree. On September 13, 1958, Joe married Maxine E. Love, who preceded him in death on November 19, 2010. Joe’s accounting degree led to a prosperous career with Kraft Foods. In the earlier years of their marriage, they traveled throughout the US as Joe audited other auditors at different Kraft Companies. He and Maxine even spent a year in Milan, Italy, working for Kraft, which gave them the opportunity to explore other European countries. Later, during his many years at Kraft, he became a controller for the company and worked on Wall Street in New York City. He had about a 3 hour commute each way in and out of the city, partly by car and partly by train! In retirement, the couple enjoyed their motorhome and their winter home in North Fort Myers, FL. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother, Kenneth R. Stone, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Halford & Mildred Hays. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Jerry & Georgann Frietchen; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gary & Rita Carter; a special niece and caregiver, Carol Gray; nieces: Denise (Ned) Herald, Tori (Philip) Clark, Tammy (Larry) Nathanson; Nephews: Kurt (Amber) Frietchen, Mike (Kathy) Stone, Ken Stone, Doug Stone; Randy (Karen ) Carter, Jimmy (Mindy) Carter; and numerous great and great, great nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on SUNDAY, October 19, 2014, at 1:00 pm with the Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 pm at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 W. Olentangy St., Powell, OH 43065; 614-792-1471. Interment will be held privately by the family at Rome Cemetery in Proctorville, OH on Monday, October 20, 2014.
