John David Nisbet

John David Nisbet, age 85, died peacefully with his wife and family by his side on Monday, February 29, 2016. Dave met the love of his life Mary Dell and was married to her for 65 amazing years. As best friends and companions, they raised 6 wonderful children. He graduated from Columbus North High School class of 1948 where he was active in basketball, baseball, cartoon club and art club. He also attended The Ohio State University and remained an avid OSU fan for life. He served bravely in the US Army in the Korean War as a First Lieutenant most remarkably at the Battle of Pork Chop Hill in the Love Company; he returned safely to his family in 1953. He was immensely proud of his service to his country, and the celebration of his career during his Honor Flight in 2013 was one of his proudest moments. Over a 44 year career at Nationwide Insurance, Dave worked in Data Processing. He was a great teacher, mentor and leader. He always had time for anyone and any questions. Dave was always very methodical and exact. His programs have lived on for many years and many of his protégés went on to become executives. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church Westerville. He especially enjoyed the Bible study and fellowship he shared with the parishioners of First Baptist. He was an avid sports fan including his beloved Buckeyes and watching his daughters, sons, and grandchildrens numerous sporting events. He was best remembered as Coach Nisbet to the many youngsters he taught and mentored in his many years of coaching. His passion for March Madness, the World Series, and the Super Bowl was legendary. He and Mary Dell moved to Feridean Commons in 2013. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff and personal aides who assisted Dave in the final two years of his life. Preceded in death by parents, John C. and Mary F. (Fries) Nisbet; brother, William Nisbet. Survived by children, Bill (Rebecca) Nisbet, Mark Nisbet, Karen (Ray) Principe, Linda Nisbet, Sharon (Andy) Kafka, and Trina (Mark) Gerhard; grandchildren, Dennis (Elizabeth) Nisbet, Mary Lynn (Bobby) Williams, A.J. (Jamie) Principe, Casey & Erin Gerhard, Lukas, Brian, Gavin & Ana Kafka; great grandchildren, Kylie, William, Teddy, Jack. Friends may call at SOUTHWICK-GOOD & FORTKAMP FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3100 N.
