John Roger Fields

John Fields of Columbus went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 8th. He was born January 12, 1964 to parents Roger and Marie Fields. He will be greatly missed. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend. John grew up and lived in Clintonville most of his life and was the oldest of five children. The family were parishioners at Immaculate Conception parish for a long time. He attended grade school there and then Bishop Watterson High School, where he was a member of the winning 1600m and 3200m track relay teams which held the school records in those events for 40 years. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ohio State University with a degree in Industrial Technology. He worked various jobs including as a car wash manager; an auto mechanic; a Dublin (middle and high school) technology, shop, and computer teacher and IT manager; self-employed auto sales; self employed computer repair; self employed home remodeling; and for the last two decades of his life he was self-employed as an antique auto restoration specialist, winning the "Super Bowl"/pinnacle of antique auto restoration, the AACA Zenith award for best restoration in the USA, among many other awards. He inherited his interest in antique car restoration from his father, Roger. John was very handy and could build or fix anything, often lending his skills to family and friends over the years. He was very generous. He had many good long-time and new friends. He loved cheering-on the OSU Buckeyes every fall, and loved going on family beach vacations to Folly Beach, S.C. every year. The most important things in John’s life were his faith and his family. He put God at the center of his life, and his lifelong motto was a beautiful quote from St. John Paul II: “Life with Christ is a wonderful adventure!” He wanted every person to know the love of God and the transformative power of Jesus Christ. He married his loving wife Kim Bishman of Marietta in 1996, and had two daughters, Kate and Elizabeth. Kim was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer not long after Elizabeth was born, and this was when John decided to fully dedicate his life to Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church in a personal way. Kim eventually passed away several years later in 2018. John attended Mass faithfully and was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church the past few years, where he was part of the men's group there, and previously had been part of two other parish’s men’s groups (IC and St. Patrick’s). He loved all of his family greatly, always willing to sacrifice and give generously to them and those around him. He recently fought a courageous battle with ALS. John was preceded in death by wife Kim, father Roger Fields, and father-in-law Gary Bishman. He is survived by his daughters Kate and Elizabeth, mother Marie Fields, mother/in-law Sandee Bishman, brothers Mike and Steve Fields, sister Jennifer (Bill) Leshnock, Sister Kathy Ihnat, nephew Jake (Jordan) Leshnock, niece Jessica (Jeff) Hutt, nephew Zack (fiance Bre Begley) Ihnat, niece Hannah Ihnat, nephew Nick Ihnat, niece Eva Ihnat, grand nephews Jackson, Lucas, and Liam Leshnock, grand niece Juliana Leshnock, and grand nephew Max Hutt. John was very loving, very strong, and had a "big heart". He would encourage, listen, and help anyone in need. He was a "doer". He loved the Lord Jesus and allowed God’s grace to transform His life. With Christ, John’s life truly was a wonderful adventure. Arrangements are being handled by Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High Street in Worthington, where calling hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.,(Prayer Service 7:30 p.m.) Thursday, July 16. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 9633 E State Route 37, Sunbury, Friday, July 17, at 11:00am with burial following at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center.
