Joan L. Sweeney

SWEENEY Joan L. Sweeney (nee McCormack), age 89, a resident of Mother Angeline McCrory Manor, Columbus, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011. Joan was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 16, 1922 to John and Helen McCormack- the youngest of six children. She is predeceased by her husband George, daughter Kerryann Hurley, son-in-law Richard Koziol, parents John and Helen McCormack, sisters S. Joseph Lorraine, S.J. and Rita Callahan, and brothers Dr. John McCormack, M.D. and James McCormack. She is survived by her sister, Mary Sheehan; sister-in-law, Theresa (Jim) O'Reilly; daughters, Lorraine (Ken) Molnar, Rosemary Fitzpatrick and Patricia Koziol; son, John J. (Carol) Sweeney, Sr.; and son-in-law, William (Ann) Hurley. She leaves behind 13 beloved grandchildren, Regina Isham, John (Amy) Molnar, Christina Wuest, John (Candace) Sweeney, Jr., Michele' Sweeney, Janine Molnar (Scott) Lucas, Victoria (Eliezer) Rodriguez, Kerri Sweeney (Jeff) Wilson, Timothy (Melanie) Sweeney, Emily Koziol, Katie Hurley, Andrew Koziol and Daniel Hurley, also 18 precious great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as seven nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews. Joan and George were long-time residents of Massapequa Park, L.I., NY where they raised their children. In retirement, they spent 22 wonderful years in Holiday, FL where they were active in St. Ignatius of Loyola parish life. They started the parish St. Vincent DePaul pantry/store and Joan was head of the Eucharistic Ministers serving the shut-ins and nursing home residents. The family would like to thank the Sisters, staff, nurses and aides of Mother Angeline McCrory Manor who lovingly cared for her. Also many thanks to "our" hospice team at HomeReach-Marna, Velva and Jackie. Your kindness will never be forgotten and you will all be forever in our prayers. Family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2011 at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 West Olentangy St., Powell, Ohio 43065, (614)-792-1471, where a Prayer Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. (The funeral home is located on W. Olentangy St./Powell Rd./SR 750 1/4 mile east of Sawmill Parkway.) Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 26th, 2011 at MOTHER ANGELINE McCRORY MANOR, 5199 East Broad St., Columbus, OH 43213 where friends may call one hour before the Mass beginning at 9 a.m. The Reverend Larry Nolan will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be held privately for the family at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to any of the following: HomeReach Hospice, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital, Mother Angeline McCrory Manor or the St. Vincent dePaul Society.
