James William "Jim" Hoyt

James William ‘Jim’ Hoyt, of Genoa Township, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 15, 2024, surrounded by his devoted family at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio. He was 77. Born on July 12, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jim was the cherished son of Dr. Charles Hoyt and Mrs. Hazel Hoyt. He grew up in Cincinnati and attended Withrow High School. Jim pursued his higher education at the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a bachelor’s degree. Later, he furthered his academic pursuits and earned a master’s degree in business administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Jim had a fulfilling career in sales and marketing, creating and contributing to highly successful campaigns for major corporations and growing companies. Throughout his life, Jim found immense pleasure in the company of his family and friends. He was blessed with the love of his life, Suzanne Ryan Hoyt, with whom he shared more than fifty years of cherished memories until her passing in 2019. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Brian and Michael. Though Jim mourned the loss of Suzanne and Michael, their love remained etched in his heart forever. Jim's legacy lives on through his surviving son, Brian Hoyt, daughter-in-law Kim, and his adored grandchildren, Samuel and Reagan. He remains lovingly in the heart of his sister, Judy Hoyt Pettigrew, and his multiple nieces and nephews including Drew Ryan (Aimee), Marci Hadley (John), Chris Pettigrew (Holly), and Piya Pettigrew. In his retired years, Jim and Suzanne found great joy and happiness in travel, especially when it meant visiting cherished friends. He was a devoted fan of the Cincinnati Bengals (from the original expansion team on), instilling in his sons and grandchildren a shared passion for the team. In his final years, Jim was surrounded by unwavering support and kindness, for which his family extends heartfelt gratitude. They also express profound appreciation to Kobacker House for the exceptional care, compassion, and dignity extended to Jim during his time there. James William Hoyt will be remembered for his sense of humor and kindness, his knowledge of various topics, his willingness to offer input and opinions (solicited or not), his unwavering love for his family, and his determination to face the challenges of his last years. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will continue to inspire all who knew him. The family will be receiving friends and family during a visitation on Saturday, April 20, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 West Olentangy Street Powell, OH 43065 In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G.
