Howard D Cooper

Howard D Cooper, Jr. (Coop), 87, of Steubenville, Ohio passed away in Powell, Ohio on Friday July 1, 2022. He was born in Toronto, Ohio on July 3, 1934 to the late Howard D Sr. and Elsie (Harris) Cooper. Coop attended school and graduated from Big Red in Steubenville, Ohio in 1953. On December 3, 1955 he married his high school sweetheart, Judith (Judy) Studer. They were married until her passing in 2017. Coop was quick to point out to anyone who asked, how much Judy taught him in life and how much she meant to him. Coop worked at an appliance store while in high school delivering appliances. After graduation he was a body man at the Ford Garage in Steubenville, then drove a “buggy” at Vanadium, worked as an electrician at Satralloy and retired as a foreman of the electrical gang at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co. He also started his own business, Cooper Electric, doing both residential and commercial wiring. He was a jack of all trades and loved to fix things, which are qualities he passed down to his son and grandsons. He was a member of Starkdale Presbyterian Church in Steubenville before they moved to the Columbus area to be closer to family. He loved spending time with family more than anything and will be fondly remembered for his witty sense of humor and jovial spirit. Coop is survived by his son, Douglas (Lisa) Cooper of Marysville, Ohio as well as 2 grandsons and 7 great-grandchildren, all of Ostrander, Ohio - Matthew (Katie) Cooper and their children Amelia, Cade, Riley, and Kai, and Reed (Elizabeth) Cooper and their children Tannen, Ellie, and River. He is also survived by in-laws Debby and Jerry Wise and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to Judy and his parents, Coop was preceded in death by his sisters, Grace Robinson, Shirley Bucy, and Betty Briganti. The memorial will be held at Rutherford Funeral Home, 450 W. Olentangy, Powell, Ohio on July 15, 2022. Visitation will be at 10AM with the service starting at 11AM. Lunch will follow.
