Grant Mason Rhue

Grant Mason Rhue, a relentless fighter and friend to all, passed away peacefully on October 22nd after a 15 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Grant was born on April 17th, 1992 to mother Judith and was raised in Athens, Ohio alongside siblings Martha, Alex and Steven. From as early as he could remember, Grant had a dream of becoming a pilot. He went on to attend Ohio University’s Russ College of Engineering, excelling in national level flight competitions and becoming a Certified Flight Instructor. After graduating college, Grant flew medical evacuations and corporate aircraft before finding his commercial airline home at Republic Airways as an honorable Captain. Grant’s impressive career landed him in Columbus, Ohio where he met his soulmate and wife, Ellie. Grant lived to help others, loved to share his extensive knowledge of aviation, and took pride in being best dressed. He enjoyed time with family, especially his nephews, and was always up for trying anything once. He lived a life he was immensely proud of even when battling aggressive cancer. Grant will live on through his large aviation family, fitness community, many friends and loving family who hold onto his personal mantra adopted during his cancer battle: “I’m not going anywhere.” Grant is survived by his wife Ellie, mother Judith Rhue, siblings Martha (Chris) Ergood, Alex Rhue and Steven Rhue, parents-in-law Greg and Nancy Anderson, sisters-in-law Lauren (Steve) Matheny, Kara (Andrew) Cobb, grandmother Shirley Stafford, nephews Steven, Nicholas, Jack, Luke, Samuel, niece Adelaide, and his beloved dog Millie, in addition to too many extended family members and friends to list. Grant was loved by all and made an unforgettable impact on everyone he met. Grant’s loved ones would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the associates at Columbus Oncology & Hematology for fighting for and alongside Grant, with special gratitude to Dr. Erin Macrae, Brittany Sweigart, Bridget Smetkano, Julie Gamble, and Yolanda Choate. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 5th at 2pm at Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell in Powell, Ohio. (450 W Olentangy St, Powell 43065) .
