Gina Rimer

Gina Valori Rimer, age 47, of Powell, OH, passed away on May 25, 2023. She was born February 16, 1976, to John and Eleanor Valori in Philadelphia, PA. Gina was a graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Upon graduation, she began her career in nursing at John Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Gina worked as a mental health RN specializing in Alzheimers dementia care. After her marriage to Ronald Rimer on October 20, 2001, Gina moved to Columbus, OH. As her husband finished residency, she worked as a telemetry floor nurse at Doctors Hospital. The opening of the New Albany Surgical Hospital offered Gina a new nursing opportunity. She found caring for orthopedic post-operative patients both challenging and very satisfying. Her constant encouragement and never ending optimism brought her patients comfort and hope as they battled pain to regain mobility. Only the arrival of her children and the role of motherhood would bring Gina more joy and fulfillment than nursing. As her children entered high school, all too soon they would be going on to college. Gina looked forward to returning to nursing, a life that she had left behind while she prepared her children for their lives ahead. Gina is survived by her husband, Ronald Rimer; daughter, Emily Rimer; son, Ronald Rimer, Jr; her father, John Valori; sister, Christine (G.J.) Lower; brother, Michael (Erica) Valori; mother-in-law, Charlane Rimer; sister-in-law, Andrea (Jim) Judson; and four-legged friends, Bob & Humphrey. Gina was preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor Valori; father-in-law, Ronald Rimer; and four-legged friend, Wilson. Gina sadly passed during ALS Awareness Month. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The causes of ALS are unknown and there is currently no cure. Gina was able to participate in a research trial in hopes that she might play a part in unlocking the mystery of ALS.
